well my time capsule just went off, never to come back on again, its one of the original 500gb ones and has never had a problem before. But now its obviously died as there is no power in it.

Anyway as there are about a billion google hits for dead time capsules due to a failing PSU, whats my chances of getting Apple to replace it as its an inherent design fault?? anyone got any experience of this?

I dont really wanna shell out £225 for a new one, what alternatives are there??

I've heard too many horror stories about them so I just use a 1.5TB HD plonked into an USB/eSATA Akasa HD enclosure. Obviously it negates the whole wireless concept of the time capsule but at least it's much simpler hardware wise.

As said, the Apple store is your best bet. Your information should be pretty safe if it is the PSU that has died on you.

Yeah i think the best thing to do is either call the apple store or ring them up and try and get through to customer relations as they can make things happen! If it's a widely known fault you should be fine to get it repaired/replaced.

on the phone to some guy I can barley hear at apple, he thinks I can get a replacement hes just checking with his supervisor

Yay nice irish supervisor is getting me a new one, gonna go to kingston apple store on saturday to get it replaced, as they dont make the 500gb anymore im guessing im getting shiny 1TB one :)

Nice :)

That's my local one too. Best go early because it gets very busy.

Excellent news. IMHO it's this kind of service that justifies the premium cost of apple products. Had a similar problem with a 3 month old macbook pro. Had it fully replaced with a higher speced machine. Oddly I also got a letter from apple apologising for the legth of time the swap out took.

I never use my 1TB Time Capsule.

Now that I have a Drobo it's just a dumb access point.

Got to ask yourself though - can you trust your data on a TM again after your first experience? I know I wouldn't.
