Time for a change.....FN2 Type R?

Aren't they incredibly thirsty? Whilst I'm not doing more than 150 miles a week, I don't really want to be putting £40-50 in :D

A bit, I used to get around 28mpg in mine :)

But anything with good performance will be thirsty really. Unless you go small and light, like the Fiesta ST.

Well I drove the FN2 and I couldn't get used to the power delivery at all. In all honesty it felt absolutely gutless until high up the rev range. I think coming from a torquey diesel to VTEC is too much of a jump for me so back to the drawing board.

Golf GTI Mk5
Focus ST 225
Megane R26 (didn't particularly want to go French)

An ST will give you the torque you crave while being more fun than the E90, they sound awesome and they can be had as cheap as 3k now, yes 3k, that would be my choice.

I've had an E90 320d and currently own an ST in my fleet so not bias...

The Megane will be that bit too much of a step back in terms of refinement and the quality you are used to.

The R26 is great to drive and nice power delivery, drives like it's on rails most of the time but the interior...oh the interior. :(

I got fed up of mine within a few months to the point I bought a 3MPS instead.

Completely agree with both of you in regards to the Megane being a stop back in refinement. I did say i'd never own a French car again:D

It's going to have to be a turbo petrol. I just think i've had a diesel for so long now an N/A petrol is too flat.

Does the 2.5T have any issues Tom?

They use the legendary Volvo 2.5 which is pretty rock solid for reliability at stock. They sound brilliant, the cabin feels good for what it is and the fabric recaros really do hug you. They are just a nice car to drive and offer that instant torque satisfaction no matter what gear you are in.

Mine let's out a considerable bark when it gets to a certain rev it's loads of fun. Was going to move mine on but to be honest it doesn't owe me much money and they are so cheap now.

Parts are EVERYWHERE and if you ever want to mod them cheaply you normally can pick up second hand parts all over the place.

In my opinion the Focus ST MK2 is becoming the new performance bargain at the moment.

The main thing with fn2s is it will be a huge step down in refinement and comfort from a 3 series I assume you are okay with that?

The ride is bone shaking they have next to no refinement from road noise everything rattles and shakes from every minute bump in the road. Also bits of ours fall off all the time, they are not quality items like people lead you to believe Hondas are, reliable yes but not a premium item.

The engine is fantastic however and they do handle pretty well aslong as the road is smooth....

Honda's quality is top notch. Just the 8th gen wasn't built to thei rhigh standards, in a bad period for Honda UK, a blip in an otherwise pristine reputation.

That's not bad. I thought they were like 20-22

That was mixed driving too, so better when cruising. You can hit the official MPG figure which is a rare thing :p

The only problem with these engines is some of the cylinder liners cracked, but it is rare. There is a mod to prevent it which is about £700ish. It is advised if you want to push 280hp or more and be reliable (the RS used the same engine, but was reinforced from the factory). The T5 engine was used in old cop cars and lasted 100,000s of miles. So it is mostly bomb proof when looked after.

Only reason I sold mine was I got a new job with a longer commute. So swapped it for a mk7 Fiesta ST (which was WAY cheaper on fuel, tax, tyres, etc).

Do we know how rare this is, my ST is on 120k now but I doubt I'm going to get the mod done tbfh

Are the turbo's solid on these?

Plenty have done 100k, just looking for things to check on them.

Cambelts are 10 years or 125K?

Oil seperator - is that on an interval?
