right then, I think it's time to dump my MG F and get something different so I need some sugestions before I spend the next few weeks looking at MX-5s.

What I want in an ideal world is a convertible, RWD car, dependable to use whenever needed and fast enough to have a bit of fun in. Well what I want is an elise but I'm only looking to spend ~ 5K give or take a bit. A turbo might be fun but I don't really want to do the mods myself, I'd like it as standard as possible. My F is on a R plate and it needs to be newer than that or my better half won't entertain the thought of spending more money on an older car

Insurance is not a problem (I'm an old git and have a garage). If it has a bigger boot than the F that's a bonus but it does need to be able to take a boot lid rack to take my MTBs on it for weekends away along with the camping gear. Or my kiteboard and kites if I'm kiting, I have to take the wheels off my board to get it in the back of the F which is a pain in the bum

ideas, thoughts and other advice welcome

BMW 528i Sport.

Come on, if he can get a 200SX recommendation in a thread about convertibles I can get my barge recommendation in :p

Seriously though... MX5, MX5 or perhaps an MX5. It's the only sensible choice.

right then, as I know completely nothing about the MX-5, and am going to ignore the 200sx and 540i sugestions ;)
What do I need to look for in the MX-5, I presume that it's the 1.8i but were there any changes that I need to get, models / variants that are good, things to look for that might be broken etc.
