My specs are in sig but in case its too small to read, im running a 8800gtx. My exams end soon and i was thinking about an upgrade. After briefly reading around i came to know that an upgrade from 8800gtx to a new one like 280 or even 295 won't result in huge increase in performance.

Most games i have played to date run pretty much maxed out with my current setup, excluding crysis and few other titles ofcourse. That said ( i may have answered my own question here but always nice to know what others think), i would like to know about the following:

First should i upgrade to a new card?
Secondly, if so, then is it wise to get the top of the line gpu to run with my current setup? talking about bottlenecks here.

Lastly, should i just wait and may be go for a complete overhaul in few months time when things begin to look like a slideshow?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

widescreen 21", i game only at 1680x1050 anything lower is not acceptable and occasionally i hook up my pc to a 40" 1080p HDtv to game at 1920x1080.

Was in a similar situation to you. I really needed to scratch the upgrade bug so i did it

Went from a 8800gtx - gtx 275. BIG noticeable difference especially when thinking about minimum framerates. Seems to be anywhere between 50-100% faster in all the games ive tested it on.

put it this way. Crysis Warhead struggled at 1280x1024 at very high/high (prob 20-30 fps)

Now i'm playing it at native rez, 1680x1050 all very high except shadows and particles and its very smooth. Very rarely notice it droppping below 30 and seems to sit nicely in the 35-45 bracket most of the time.

seriously, its like playing a different game. Especially as the 275 seems to cope with the ice levels so much better.

I say do it.:P

Thanks for the reply, interesting. That kinda takes care of getting an upgrade i suppose:D but what about bottle necks or more specifically which gpu would be perfect with this setup. More replies the merrier;)

doubt your system will bottleneck it. Any decent quad over 3ghz is going to be enough i would have thought.

Thanks. Don't think i will ever be a enthusiast so i guess i will wait for now. But if someone else posts in favor of an upgarde then im back to having second thoughts.:D
