I've had my Fiesta Zetec a little over a year now I think, and it's time to get rid of it. 80k, scratches, dents, suffice to say it's looking tired and old.

So, I have around £3000 to spend on a new car. The budget isn't strictly up to 3000, as I'm prepared to pay a bit extra for the perfect one, but as close to or under 3000 as possible.

Criteria:

Fun. I'm 20 years old and my previous cars have been a Fiesta and a Citroen AX. I fancy something nicer, I would love a two-seater.

Insurable. Still being 20 and with points on my license I'm aware insurance can sting me if I'm not careful, so something not too high up on the insurance ladder.

Reliable. An obvious one but although I love cars, I'm not a hands on person with them. I can change the oil and brake pads, but anything more than that and I'm crap, so cars that require attention and TLC every weekend won't be any good.

So far a few people have mentioned a Ford Focus. Not much fun but supposed to be great cars. A Mazda MX-5 (Mk1) They look great and sound reliable being Japanese, but will I find a good one for ~3k? An MR2, they look alright but I've never been a big fan of them really. Also I spotted a suggestion for an FTO in this thread which has the same budget as me.

So, basically has anyone got any further ideas for a good car I should look at? Cheers.

FTO's can be very heavy on insurance, especially in comparison to their performance. Certainly worth checking.
