Time for a new desktop!

Hi Folks,

I'm looking at building a new desktop, but it's been a long while, good few years, since I last built a system.

So, I'm looking for some build recommendations, my budget is £600 including monitor.

I want as much bang for my buck, and only essentials are HDMI output, and a wireless card.

What is the PC used for??

Do you need peripherals?

Do you need a copy of Windows?

Hi Cat,

No OS required, will need Keyboard / Mouse + Speakers, but I have these lined up separately, so lets revise the budget to say £500 including a 22" monitor.

Mainly used for watching HD movies, surfing the web, listening to music, with the odd gaming session.

Also, if I'm honest, would prefer 4GB memory, quad core processor and a 1TB HDD.

The component that makes or breaks your budget is the graphics card. As long as you can get a 5770 in your budget you will be fine.

Is the 5770 a good card? .... A mid range card would probably suffice, unless I'm missing something

It is a very good card for the price and uses the latest direct X.
Personally I would find the extra cash to get the 5770 as it will last some time longer than a 4850 will.

that's pretty poor tbh, need closer to a grand budget to make a good go of this.

i5 750
5770 (possibly 5850)
4gb ddr3
1tb f3
antec 650w psu

etc...

plus screen
