My mums machine has finally given up the ghost, so I've spec'd this up:

If you have any ideas as to what could be made better, feel free to suggest it. Its a basic home computer, with a max budget of 400. We can salvage the optical drive, but thats about it, everything else is dead or dying.
Thanks guys :)

I know you said £400 budget but

use the code CMDOUBLE to knock it down to £453

cm case + psu offer details

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18347004

plus you get free delivery as you have over 100 posts and have been on here for over 12months so knock another £11.75 off so that's £441.25

are you sure the optical drive is sata?

the ram is weekend only price and 'only 200' at that price(191 remaining) so grab the ram if you need time to decide on the rest.

the price of the hard disks is really hampering the value for budget otherwise this would be well within budget.

does your mum do any gaming other than browser stuff?

if she doesnt then this will be just what your after:

if you will be doing some light gaming (proper games, not flash stuff) then i would suggest getting this graphics card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-171-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=2077

if you want to put a big graphics card (~£100+) in that PC in the near future i would suggest the 600W version of the PSU

fowler, you forgot the OS

upgrade the cpu to an i5/i7(sandy or ivy) in the future.

edit: reaper you posted just as I was typing. the kingston ram is on offer so may as well get that for £7 more as its 8gb
if you notice your spec is basically the same as mine bar the ram ;)

fowler, you forgot the OS

in my initial spec that had the i2500k yes but if you look at this post you'll notice its in it ;)

yeah, probably worth going for the 8GB kit + the 2120 since they are quite a bit better than the next lowest priced things.
