Hello All,

I'm currently running AMD 6950 Twin Fozza 3 this was meant to be a stop gap a few years back and yet I'm still using it, buts starting to show its age now. I'm out of touch with GFX market and so not sure where or what product to consider therefore I'm opening it to you guys :)

I'm looking for some advise on what is the best Single PCB GFX card from either AMD/nVidia that will be used at max res of 1900x1200 .

Something suitable for FPS would be ideal. Budget £300/£400 less if possible.

I'm not looking to upgrade my monitor or even care about 4k so that should remove the flagship solutions from AMD/nVidia from the list, so what would you guys recommend?

Regards
Geoff.

If your not too fussed with the top end cards then your best bet is to pick up a used GTX970 or 290X
The 390X is just a rebadged 290X with 8GB of RAM and the 980 is not much faster than an over clocked 970, so the next things up are the Fury's and 980ti

Save yourself some money now and start saving for the cards coming out next year

R9 390 8GB slightly faster than a 970 for the same or cheaper price.
But a used 290X is the best bang for buck. Faster than both the 970 and the 390,comes close to a gtx 980/390X.

Don't get a 290x. Go for either a 390 or pay a bit more for a 390x, They did important improvements to the Hawaii chip (290/290x) when updating to Grenada (390/390x) The performance difference between a 290x and a 390 will be hard to notice.
One of these is what I'd go for, Personally I think the Sapphire is better but the MSI has a backplate and higher box clocks so it may be the better choice.

Er. They didn't change the chip at all, they changed the boards and used bigger, higher clocked, lower voltage memory modules, thus allowing for much more memory performance, coupled with the slightly higher clock on the core to give the performance improvement.

To the opening poster a 390 or a 970 would be great, or if you want to spend a bit more a 390x or 980 would also both be great.

Hi guys thanks for the feedback so far, years ago I tried buying used GFX cards and to be honest wasted more money than if I had purchased new. I have lost faith in finding a genuine 2nd hand purchase.

I have been ATI for a long time, think since the ATI 980 PRO :) (Still got it somewhere)
So may jump ship to nVidia.

@Gregster what is GameWorks/ShadowPlay/DSR ?

Thanks Guys.
