Time for an upgrade

You can save yourself £60 by getting this motherboard instead and not having to get a graphic card...it got an intergrated HD4200:

Aye, but do they work on dual VGA connected screens?

I remember a thread from a while back with a 785G board and dual VGA screens. The problem was that the DVI connection does not work with a VGA adapter by design, so at least on of the monitors needs to be DVI/HDMI.

@ Humpty what are the connections of the monitors?

Ideally 1 DVI & 1 VGA. Both are Viewsonic 930's with DVI but if I can avoid re-cabling that would avoid a small inconvenience.

Think I would probably go for the additional graphics card though. I tend to find that it just makes systems faster and more stable. Maybe only perception but that seems to be the way it works for me.

If you sure that's what you want, you could get a MSI 770-C45 (around £50) and also grab a HD4350 512MB (around £25). Unfortunately OcUK don't sell them, so you would have to find them elsewhere.

On the sidenote: I know you mention that you'll be doing some programming...you don't use Nvidia's Cuda do you?

Thanks for all the advice. This has been really helpful. I'll sleep on it and make a final decision in the cold light of day.

I'd forgotten how enticing shiny new hardware can be!

Any final comments before I bite the bullet (still not sure I won't swap the SSD drive out)??

Christ, this is totally my bad.

I now realise I should have included this in the spec. I'm so used to specifying this for intel systems that it seemed obvious it would be fine out-of-the-box with an AMD.

Really sorry man.

Hey, no problem. Still really appreciate your advice. I've built enough PC's in my time to know that there is usually something that goes wrong or something missed off the spec'. :)

Once again, thanks for your help.

Aye, atleast you will be able to build the system without any delay, the CPU cooler that comes with the retail CPU will work fine in the mean time - it may be a bit loud and please don't try overclocking on it - but it will work.

Loving this new system. Flies along even without any o'clocking and is whisper quiet (even with the stock cooler).

Like Windows 7 too, although it looks like I will have to run my scanner in XP compatability mode :-/
