time for an upgrade

From a small bit of research on cubase DAW just now it appears that 6 cores with high core clocks where the sweet spot a couple of years ago. Unless there hads been significant develment over the last couple of years with multithreadedness than the 3600 will be perfect for your music use.

just been reading that intel seems to be a better safe bet when it comes to music production, some vst apparently dont run well on AMD architecture.. though they can not confirm this.. is there an intel setup thats good?

v 11 will be out soon, usually Nov, so may be worth waiting to see if things have changed regarding multithreading.. atm, some say off, some say on....
 
reading on the KVR thread, many happy with the 3900x...
memory is just as important, 2 rather than 4 sticks etc.. allowing the cpu to access ram faster... again overwhelming..

You can still use the back to school promo for intel builds but it would work out a bit more but even then you should go with whats best for the software you will be using.

mm.. intel seems lots of £££' .
the 3900xt looks sweet, a lot of peeps on KVR saying they are very happy with the AMD 3900...
