Time for SSD Boot Drive?

I've been debating recently whether to get an SSD for my boot drive.

If i were to go ahead and buy one, it would only be there to install Windows on.

I currently have 2 SATA drive, 1x250GB & 1X750GB.

I was thinking of using the SSD for the windows installation (& Certain programs i use quite a lot!) and then install programs on the 250GB, With the 750gb carrying on as my backup and storage for Music etc.

I can get an Crucial M4 64GB For around the £55 area. Was just wondering if this would be enough space, or should i opt for a 128gb SSD?

Any advice guys?

Well, if you are using it for just the o/s then 64GB would be fine. The temptation is then to start 'adding' software at a later date and reducing the space. If you can afford it then go for the 128GB as this will give you some room in the future. After all, the SSD should last you for at least 3 years remember.

Yeah that was my 'fear' really.

I say its only for OS, then it wil be like, oh I'll ad this program, ill ad this program. next thing you know, its full.

What the deal with the 120/128GB ones nowadays?

Are OCZ still the ones to avoid? I see the Agility 3 is the cheapest at around £100. Or, do people recommend other drives?

64GB should be fine if you're strict with yourself, 128GB will give you a bit more freedom.

I currently have 52GB free on my Vertex 3 120GB and according to the Windows control panel I have 250 programs installed (you can minus about 40 from that for games as they're all on my 1TB Samsung) :p

That includes all the large programs such as Office, Photostop, etc.

Well the whole point was basically to Install Windows 7. Few apps i tend to use the most.

I realise that updates etc will tend to take up more room as you go on, but you can remove windows update files/uninstallers which can free up room.

In two minds now! M4 64GB For around £50.

Or double up, for double the money. Hmm!

if you really want only to put limited stuff on it use a 64 or a 128 fresh install and common stuff on that drive. keep the other os install and multi boot to what ever system you want to use. i currently 6 os boot like this and use a crucial 256 ssd for a copy of win7 and games everything else is on another drive with win7 and others.

Managed to get a 128 M4 For £90.

Do people suggest turning off windows-write cache buffer? or should we lave it enabled?

Im currently working through 'Seans Windws 7 Install guide'
