Hey guys it`s time to update my rig but i`m not sure on what would be the best items to buy. I could go the overclock route but I have little to no experience. Would you please take a look at my specs and give me some idea cheers...

So here are my specs

AMD FX 8350 cpu, with evo 212 cpu cooler

ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX mother board

16gig of ram ddr3 (can`t remember the brand) or the clocks

AMD Radeon R9 290X 4gig overclocked edition

Super flower 750wat PSU

Case bitfenix colossus window (I would like a smaller case)

1tb HDD

250G SAMSUNG SSD

Windows 10

oh if I don`t reply soon it`s because ive gone to work :P

I really wouldn't upgrade that at this point. You have nowhere to go on the AMD side so the only way to upgrade would be Intel and it's a expensive route to take as you will need new ram as well. The 8350 isn't that bad. Yes Intel can be better and their boards have all the latest stuff on them but I doubt if you would notice that much of a difference in performance while gaming. You have a very good motherboard so look into overclocking your 8350 and then wait until AMD launches Zen to see if that's anygood or not. You will need a decent cooler if you haven't already got one.

You've missed out your most important component, the monitor ;)

Normally when you get the upgrade itch but don't need a new GPU or CPU you tend to look at your peripherals.

My monitor is an 22" Asus 1080p LCD it`s fine for the moment but I do need to get a new one soon as ive had it for ages now :)

I thought about getting a new CPU but my mobo does not support the newer CPU models out apart from the Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590, but you have to tinker with the mobo setting with voltage and I dont like doing things like that.

So you think I should hold fire? I was thinking about making a new build. A small form factor build based on the this case

a console size build if you will.

Yes, hang fast. Your pc is still very capable. Wait and see what Zen has to offer when it launches. It's coming on a new socket as well so hopefully we will have new motherboards that are on par with Intel boards with regards to having all the latest features. Swapping to Intel will be very expensive and not worth the gains. Get that 8350 overclocked. It's easy enough to do and there are plenty of guides on how to do it plus loads of help on here. Do not buy a 9590 as it's only a overclocked version of what you already have.

i would wait for the amd 480 :) to lower my power consumption and its more powerfull than your gpu.. also your cpu is good no need to change i also run an 8 core as long its not heating up its really fast

Ok thanks for the feed back guys I`ll be sure to wait for the next-gen of AMD CPU to arrive in Q4.

I`ll have ago at overclocking my cpu. Can anyone suggest any tips or software or guides to help as ive never overclocked before.

cheers
