Has anyone done a fresh install of windows vista lately ?
if yes how long did it take you ??

I just did a fresh install for one my family members a few days ago and it took me hours on top of hours due to all the updates...

First i installed vista from DVD,that only took about 30minutes
Then i had to download and install SP1 and then SP2 and then there was still another 80 window updates i had to download and install

After i finished installing i made sure to make a backup clone of the install.....;)

I normally format once every ~6 months and have a clean install of Windows 7.

Never seems to take that long. The updates take ages though.

its 4 years of updates on what was a patchy OS. cant imagine a lot of people are doing fresh installs of pre sp1 vista nowadays though so at least its a rare annoyance :)

It's because you put a space before question marks, that's why it takes so long for you.

Really though, you should have just got an ISO that had the service packs slipstreamed in.

Also, Nutella33, there was actually never anything wrong with Vista. Windows 7 is basically Vista with a new user interface.

Usually takes ages due to slow mechanical drives + tonnes of updates needed. I installed W7 today after doing a full system wipe and it took 5 mins, if that to actually copy all the files, setup and be fully usable on the desktop after I started the install. SSD ***!

Now that you have it installed, sysprep it with the generalise option ticked and store an image so the next time you won't have as many updates to install.
