Am getting the itch to tinker again!

As you can see my system is not to bad, but I am thinking is it worth going to a i5?

I use it for gaming mainly, and have started to get into video editing with Adobe Premier Pro with multi-cam views of my motorbike track days.

Anyway, was looking at the Krypton Z68 600i Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.60GHz Overclocked Bundle, upgrading the ram to 8GB, changing my system drive from the SSD I have now to a SATA3 SSD, and obviously getting a new waterblock and keep the cooling system.

I can then sell 1 of my SSD's, water block and current mobo and oc'd quad to help fund this.

What do you guys think?

Will I see any real difference? Or am I just keeping up with the times?

LMAO! Are you seriously asking if you will see any different between a Core 2 Quad and an i5-2500k????

YES YOU WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Massive difference, especially in gaming and video editing. The only thing that may hold you back is you GPU. I would get either a GTX560ti or 6950, or maybe 6870 (which I am getting :P)

GET IT!

If you can afford it then yeah, definitely go for it. You will notice a difference between the Intel Core 2 Quad definitely but should consider getting a half decent Graphics Card.

Erm, as the OP already seems to have a HD 5870 then none of the cards you've listed would be a particularly significant upgrade and the HD 6870 would be a downgrade.

The only possible benefit could be a 2GB HD 6950 or 2GB GTX 560Ti which may be better for very demanding games or high resolutions (over 1920x1080/1200).

really??? im getting a 6870 soon, you saying i should get the 5870 instead to replace my 5770???

Fairly close but the HD 5870 is the better performing of the two:

HD 5870 v HD 6870

The HD 6870 uses less power and runs cooler.

As a HD 6870 is around £140 I'd probably get one over HD 5870, unless the HD 5870 was a decent amount less, but it's not worth "upgrading" from a HD 5870 to a HD 6870.

Im upgrading from a HD5770!

I cannot believe that. What is it with GPU companies these days. Aren't the next generation GPU's meant to be faster. i.e. HD6870 faster than HD5870.

This sucks ass!

Despite the numbering the HD 6870 wasn't the replacement card for the HD 5870.

That would be the HD 6950 but even that's not a massive leap.

Ah... what card do you think I should buy then to replace my HD5770??

I run an overclocked Athlon X4 640 and 4gb DDR3 1333mhz.

Thanks

It is much better than my current HD 5770. It's mainly for MW3 so I can play on my TV in HD.

Any other cards you can recommend? I have done a lot of reading up on GPU's lately, because it is going to be my first upgrade and the 6870 looks like the viable option. My budget is £150 MAX!!!

Thanks

At that sort of money it's a toss up between a HD 6870 or a GTX 560.

They both offer basically the same performance.

£160 and you're into GTX 560Ti territory which is another rung up the ladder.

HD 6870 v GTX 560Ti
