Time played = Good value surely?

I dont think that really works!

While having a long game is the most important factor for me I'd much rather say 30hours on Deus Ex than 100 hours of a MMORPG for example, or 60 hours on Baldurs Gate 2 than 200 on Oblivion!

A week with your GF or a night with Paris Hilton anyone? ;)

Naah, value is purely from the amount it costs them to create the game. And them getting the game to us at the lowest price possible so more units sold!

TF2 was simply some engine modification, maps reworked into the source engine, few new ideas - therefore was worth less than say Bioshock as it had less work going into creating it!

EDIT: Of course the counter to this is - "What about some of the really BAD games which appear to have had far less work put into them than the cheaper games, but still sell at full price" - well the answer to this is those games still cost as much to develop, just the way in which they were developed was far less efficient, and the ideas wern't as good.

SECOND EDIT:And hedge there is an issue with putting your personal price tag on an item, I'd have paid £300+ for my gamecube, purely because of the amount of fun i've had with mates on mario kart, though in acuallity I bought it for £40. Now the issue is milage may vary, the company's have to decide a price which is fair for everyone, this is based on the cost of development.

Depends really on how enjoyable those hours were.
I've completed some games that have been a bit of a slog, take Halo for example. That took me a lot longer to complete than Call of Duty, but I wouldn't say it was better value. CoD was very slick and although it only lasted 8hrs, it was a very intense and enjoyable 8hrs (same goes for CoD4, that was even shorter I think).

Don't forget a lot more will happen in 1hr of an action-packed war game like CoD than say 1hr of an adventure game where you might spend 10mins just wandering about trying to get where you're going to. Or in the case of multiplayer games, sure you may have racked up thousands of hours, but how many of those hours were spent staring at the scoreboard, or waiting for a round to start, or getting frustrated as hell as you get gunned down by a teammate?

Compared to other entertainment forms I do think gaming in general represents good value however.

For time played vs money spent I would say Guild Wars (all 3 chapters+exp) was the best value for me. I spent several hundred hrs on that game over 3 yrs or so.

I enjoyed every bit of it. Had great fun with different builds for pve and pvp. When Nightfall came out the hero system added even more options on that. Sure, there is grind in the game if you want certain titles but I never got bogged down with that.
