I want to build a new pc for myself. and i want a powerhouse as this will be the last time i can afford to buy a new pc for the next 3-4 years.

I have a keyboard, mouse and speakers already

I need

Processor
Motherboard
Ram
Power Supply
Case
Monitor
Cooling Sollution (was thinking of watercooling)
Hard Drive
OS
GFX card (maybe get the nvid 8950?)

Budget Total : £2600

I was thinking of getting the cheapest 4 core intel and ocing it.

Any suggestions?

Gigidy.. nice price. Let's see what everyone can find for you :)

That's £2100 which leaves you £500 for either watercooling or throwing in a second GTX and a good cooler like the Thermalright Ultra 120 :)

lol.... ive put one together... but i dont know what overclocks / runs well together :)

so ill leave it for you pros :p

This is under budget but includes quad core, 4gb Ram, SLI'd 8800GTXs and a 24" monitor. I don't know anything much about water cooling so I've just stuck in one of the best air coolers I know of. The hard drive might be a bit small but there is room in the budget for more. Additionally I'm not too sure about the case although I believe everything will fit fine. :)

Semi I quoted almost the exact same spec as you apart from leaving out the second GTX and putting in 2x500GB harddrives ;)

Thanks everyone.
This was the spec i done before i asked on here. Can see theres a number of diffs between the specs ive been given and mine. Which is the best one to use.

and also i was wondering which vista to get 32 or 64. ?

Would change the Seagate's to 7200.10's better performance compared to the older tech that's been speced

Oh my bad. I meant to spec the 7200.10s! :o

EDIT: Fixed!

If you are thinking about going for 4gb Ram (and with your budget I probably would) then you need a 64bit OS.

The PSU is overkill, the Corsair HX 620w will easily cope with the systems I and Darg specified.

For a 24" monitor I'd be thinking about SLi if you are much of a gamer.

The Abit is expensive, even for a Nforce 680 based motherboard.

Finally the Raptor is very expensive for what it is, the Seagate 7200.10s are only slightly behind and the AAKS drives from Western Digital are a shade quicker than the 7200.10s. :)

The Raptor is a waste of money unless you get two really, better off with a pair of 7200rpm drives in RAID.

Just get 64-bit Vista no reason not to.

Get the 64-bit as you have a 64bit capable processor :)

Cases are generally a matter of personal taste. Most of the decent ones push through a decent amount of airflow. You'll probably find that the Lian Li cases are the preferred ones on these boards though. I'm not sure about the thermaltake cases.

Good choice :)

I'd go for 2x2GB of PC6400 like in my spec. Most 6400 will clock as far as you need it to anyway. Spending so much on a PC-8500 is a bit of a waste of money.

Good choice again.

The EVGA is the better proven 680i board and has the best support it would seem.

BFG have a lifetime guarantee and aren't that much more expensive. I'd go with the BFG 8800GTX or wait for the ultra or the R600s.

If you want to deprive a 3rd world country of its power supply then this is good. If you want a good quality PSU with as much power as you'd need to run 2x8800GTXs in SLi then get the Corsair 620W modular specced above ;)

As I said above. Get the 64-bit.

Raptors are a waste of money. Not much faster then the 7200.10s yet 4 times the price per GB. Get the seagate and you won't notice any difference between the two!

brill this is exactly what i needed ...some good info :D

thanks guys.. im going to purchase my pc on the weekend but i will spec it up today taking all the infor on board. Ill post it up when its done...

Thanks again :D

Heres the spec. Any Final Changes you think i should make?

------------Cases-------------
Cant decide what case Though...

Thought the mozart would be good because i could chuck another mobo in there and host my server in the same case? (not sure if that will work well though)

The other 2 i have heard people say good things about.

But they all look good to me :D

Someone choose for me :p !!!

Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black) £75.99
(£89.29)

Thermaltake VE1000SWA Mozart TX Aluminium Entertainment Tower Case - Silver £119.99
(£140.99)

Lian Li PC-A10B Aluminium Full-Tower - Black £135.99
(£159.79)

I'd personally get the Lian Li mainly because I like the look of it but it is also huge and will fit SLi'd 8800GTX cards apparantly.

The EVGA is quite expensive considering the BFG is as good but around £40 cheaper. I'd also go SLi if gaming is an objective.

I'd still buy an aftermarket cooler such as the Noctua.

Finally you don't appear to have an optical drive in there and I would choose the AAKS drive over the 7200.10 because it is a little faster, I own a 7200.10 as well. :)

thanks for the final tips...

that cpu cooler does not fit the evga board apparently because of heatpipes in the way on mobo?

is there another one you would reccomend?
