Time to change Evo X... but for what...

I bought my Evo X new in July 2008, I had intended to change it after 2 years ago but Mitsubishi haven't done anything different. By this time they would have normally done an MR version or something.

So it's time to change but I'm struggling to think of a good alternative, I've had evo's for the last 8 years and love the performance and handling. The obvious choice would be to look at the Subaru and the new 4 Door WRX Sti looked favourable but in the UK it doesn't have the rear spoiler and therefore I don't like the look of it.

I'd be looking to spend around the 40K, preferably a little less but could stretch a little more too if need be - I keep looking at a new GTR but they cost more than I would like to spend (ohh so tempting though).

So just wondering if anyone has some suggestions?

Cheers

Jason

P.S. Don't like BMW's

Hi there

What EVO X do you have?

I have an X FQ-360 running 411BHP and just recently purchased a 911 C2S.

I also considered the GTR and test drove a couple and also did some costings and a GTR in absolute best case would cost me £3000-£4000 more per year to run than the EVO X and could get as high as £6000 per year, and YES thats on top of the EVO X's running cost.

You need 48-42k to get a GTR but do remember its going to cost considerable money to run.

In regards to ability, I do find the EVO a little more involving than the GTR but my EVO is a manual which helps. But the GTR has more grip than the EVO and is even quicker at covering ground but you need to do such serious speeds in a GTR to get any sense of enjoyment/fun.

So if your in a slower EVO and its more power you crave then maybe consider tweaking the EVO a bit.

Gibbo : It was bought as a FQ330 (manual - in white) and officially upgraded to a 360 (less the carbon front which I didn't like). I want to change it before it's 3 year birthday and MOT etc but nothing is really shouting at me other than the GTR. The costs you mention for the GTR is a lot and another thing putting me off is there is no dealer anywhere near me for servicing etc so I'll end up travelling a couple hundred miles or something.. With reference tweaking the EVO that was something I considered and it could keep my interest - what did you do to yours ? How's the 911 C2S? interesting choice.

Vita : Thanks for the suggestion, I think in the same way I don't see myself as a BMW driver, I feel the same about Merc and Audi (don't know why) - however I have an Audi garage close to home so I may take a look there.

Mine is a FQ360 as standard so the 360's is set to over-achieve on boost. First mod I fitted was a full turbo back Milltek system with de-cat, that took the car to circa 390BHP. Then Forge fitted an intercooler which push the BHP beyond 400. Night and day different compared to how it was stock, its only 40BHP or so more but the way its delivered is so explosive it makes the car much more fun.

The C2S, well thats going to be a rather long write up which I shall sort at some point, its more about what you want. The EVO has some advantages but the 911 is a very different drive and more rewarding and a lot more involving. :)

Cheers Gibbo, I've been reading the Lancer Register Forums the past few days as I don't really know enough about modding that's why in the past I've done everything officially through the dealer. Japfest is next month so I think I'll go there and have a dig around and pick peoples brains... I was actually going to just buy a new Evo X 360 just to get a new warranty again, I like me White X though and it has really low mileage so I'm going to have to have a long think..

Did you just say you wanted to change it before it needs an MOT?

Yeah, not that it's a big issue or anything just thought I'd save my self by changing it before if I was going to change the car. I got the car on the 4th July so MOT for end of June I guess so I have a little time to think.

Seeing as you would have got a new Evo.. and have considered a new STi..Go down to litchfield imports and get yourself a new STi Spec C with their exhaust, remap and suspension pack. Cheaper than your budget by about £7k, Evo rated 5 Stars - very fast, very capable, and fully warranted etc like a UK car :)

I had actually, as mentioned in OP I liked the look of the 4 Door WRX Sti, but for some reason the UK Version doesn't have a rear spoiler - A scooby isn't a Scooby without one. My mate told me about the Spec C from Litchfield, for some reason I missed that issue of EVO. I haven't seen one in the flesh but I don'tt really like the 5 door style, pity Litchfield aren't doing a 4 door version.
