Been thinking about this for a while. I don't play PC games anymore, sick of wasting my life away on them. CS:S will always hold good memories though

Always been a desktop pc guy but thinking of selling it all and buying a notebook. I don't think I need all the power of my PC, is this a good idea?

if you aint ever planning on gaming again, you given any thought to ipad/tablet pc's. excellent portability. usually much more so than laptops

Ever thought about small form factor? That's fairly inbetween desktop and laptop. I've had a couple of £550 builds from OcUK and both were actually quite good for games too, even though that's not the area you're looking at.

i wouldnt ditch your desktop, as a past laptop user, i can tell you there is nothing more glorious than to sit in front of a nice monitor with a powerful beast of a computer than to hunch over a laptop with a pitifully small and low resolution screen and then try to type on the squashed keyboard and inaccurate trackpad

i know becuase i stayed with my sister at her house and the only computer available was a small netbook - the screen was so small the windows update window couldnt fit onto it

depending on the specs of your PC, you could consider selling off parts you dont need and replacing them with lower end parts, a good example maybe the graphics card. if you own something like a GTX590, you could consider selling it and buying something like a GTX560 if you are no longer gaming, that is unless you need the GPU power for other uses.

Hang on I would still have a monitor and mouse/keyboard just hooked upto the laptop instead of a PC. It would still be powerful (i5 4GB).

I'd still keep the hard drives too but as externals. Don't see the point in desktops anymore unless for games or professional resource hungry applications.

I'm moving my main desktop over to my laptop (tho still keeping my gaming PC for now) - its not the most recent laptop but 15" 1680x1050 panel is pretty useable, 2.83gig dual core on it is plenty powerful for most things (same specs as desktop E8300) and the GTX260m (same as 1gig 9800GT) still handles most games fine at mostly high settings).

Saves a ton of power, heat, noise and space and stirs up a lot less dust than a full blown tower.

Exactly :) Portable too. What laptop is it? I've never been a fan of Apple but their new Macbook Pro 13" has got me. I can't find an alternative laptop for the same price, the build quality doesn't come close.
