Time to improve the Apex Ultra kit

Had my Apex Ultra + w/c kit installed for over a year now - as good as it has been, I know there are parts out there that could be replaced to improve it.

What would you change / keep out of the following? (Or ADD to...)

- Apogee CPU Block
- MCW60 VGA Block
- MCW30 Chipset Block
- MCR220 Radiator
- MCP655 12V DC Pump
- MCRES-MICRO reservoir
- MCB120 Radbox radiator mounting adapter

(btw, I'm not actually using the chipset block and the VGA block is cooling a GTS 8800 with the necessary block adapter)

I would change the CPU & VGA Blocks myself...

Get an D-Tek Fusion or EK Supreme CPU block and an EK Full Cover VGA Block

you could also improve on the standard fans that you get in that kit.

Thanks for that - I'll have a look at those items you mentioned.

I actually bought a couple of Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mms a week or two ago with a view to sticking them on the rad when I do my re-vamp.

These are ok, aren't they? (Please say "yes"!)

Depends on the CPU for the block.

The Apogee is a good block for dual/single cores.

For a Quad core- See ScottiB post/recommendations.

Bigger/better rad would give you the biggest improvement in temps for a Cpu+Gpu loop.

A Thermochill PA 120.3 would fit on the radbox you are currently using and greatly improve temps overall.

The pump and res don't need changing = both are very good.

EDIT - Yes Yate loon d12sl fans are great - i use them ;)

Mark - only have dual core E6600 so the Apogee is ok for this?

With regards to the rad, does the 120.3 mean it needs 3 rather than 2 120mm fans?

Does this increase the noise by much and is it gonna be necessary to invest in a third Yate Loon? :D

To get the best temperatures overall , focus on the radiator.

The block is good , not the best , but you will only see a small difference if you change that.

Yes , 120.3 means a triple radiator - Thus you will need 3 fans ( 1 more of the Yate loons that you have will be ~ £4/5. )

"Noise" is a personal thing - The fans can easily be modded to 7 volt and be silent whilst still giving good airflow.

Got the standard system running on my Q6600 and temps idle can be between 14c to 25c. With full load 45c to 55c. My rad is near the window so I have the benefit of the weather chilling my system.

Would the "EK 8800 GTS GPU Water Block" fit a G80 8800GTS card?

@ tainted really good temp im also running the same cpu block but have slighty higher temps than your temps around +10c more :o

Just wondering is your q6600 a b3 or a go ?

Also is your q6600 lapped ?

thanks

Chip is a G0.

Average temps idle are around 20c - 25c and load around 45 to 50c. cant have the window open all the time!!! Only get 14c to 20c one a cold night. I plan to extend the pipes so rad is outside. Only another 20cm's needed. Reversed fans because the way rad is positioned it would be blowing room air over rad so now it sucks rather and pulls through the cold air coming in from windows.

CPU not lapped at all. That's all stock. volts 1.425 @ 3.6ghz and 1 1/2 half Crysis stable.

What temps you getting idle and at load? system specs?

-PA120.3 with shroud
-3 x Yate loon SL's
-7/16" Masterkleer tubing (nice and tight over 1/2 barbs) 7/16" is king :)
-D-Tek Fuzion CPU block (5.5mm nozzle with washer for your dual core and MCP655 pump)
-Metal 775 cpu backplate. (negates the need for a pro mount kit)
-MCW60 VGA block (I use this on my GTS running 850/2205/1154 :))
-EK Multioption Reservoir (my top pick)
-Petra'sTech concentrated Biocide (PT nuke)
-Distilled/De-ionised water
-MCB120 Radbox radiator mounting adapter

Bar the Radbox, cpu water block setup (I run a Quad so diff nozzle) thats pretty much what I run and its the bomb

Your processor is running at 4ghz at 1.5v. Is that what you have set it in the bios or what CPUz reports?

In bios vcore is set to 1.525v, in windows/cpu-z its reads as 1.5v, under prime load it dips under 1.5 very slightly.

Im running a q6600 b3 @ 3.0ghz stock vcore getting ubseen temps 45c idle 65c-70c full load and thats after 4 remounts and using artic silver 5 which is **** poor temps considering its under water.

What mount are you using to mount your cpu block tainted ?
