Time to replace HX 520 but with what?

I've finally decided to replace the old faithful HX 520 - there's nothing wrong with it, it's more peace of mind than anything else, but what do I replace it with?

I've got my eye on the Seasonic G 650w and the EVGA G2 750w but I think the G2 may be overkill for my needs, and may lose some of its efficiency because my power requirements aren't that high I don't think?

I don't want a SuperFlower if it has those white LED's either lol.

Thanks!

Yeah it's for the spec in the sig.

I'm finding it harder to pick a PSU than most other hardware to be honest! I don't want something that's overpowered, but I want something I know is going to last.

I've no idea chaps to be honest, I'm as undecided now as before.

All I know for sure is that I want a PSU rated Gold efficiency, the HX is Bronze so I'd like to make a step up, so to speak.

Other than that I don't really need anything over ~650W because I'm not interested in multiple GPU set ups. I definitely want a PSU that is going to be as reliable as this one has been, so I don't mind paying extra for that.

Yeah I'd prefer at least semi modular.

That SuperFlower is good, but 750W is overkill so wouldn't efficiency take a tumble because I'd get nowhere near that and, as you say, power consumption could well go down over time.

Thanks for all the help by the way!

It seems to be a good power supply and it's only just been released here. Should be just fine for your system!

Actually no it'll be the 650W version because the 550W is only 45 amps I think whereas the 650W offers 54 amps. Same as me HX.

Thank God I've decided it's been a pain lol.

Thanks for the help fellas!

Maybe I'll just keep this lol.

I'll be honest - I wanted to stick to Seasonic because why not considering this HX has been great, but there's a lot of love on here for SuperFlower.

750W is just pointless though because I'll get nowhere near it with my rig.

Are FSP any good?

That's why I was originally considering the G2 because of the 10 year warranty.

Okay it'll be either the 650W GS or the 650W G1. The 10 year warranty is very appealing but I'm confident the GS could last as long. Though of course it could not.

Your HX has lasted this long and that had a 5yr warranty.

True enough mate, it's hard to believe considering all the stress it's had over the years.

Toss a coin, it's your decision :D

If it's a good PSU then it'll likely last more than 5 years - I'd prefer the Seasonic based GS as it'll be superior in terms of components used etc but this is your decision at the end of the day

I think that'll be what I go for in the end but there's massive peace of mind with a 10 year warranty.

Woot! Order placed!

I went for the EVGA G2 750W, one of the original PSU's I was after. The 10 year warranty and future proofing was too good to miss, even if it doesn't get fully utilized.

It's a SuperFlower OEM so stulid you should be 50% satisfied lol. I'm just glad it's over.

Yeah I'm a bit concerned I've gone OTT, but I'd rather that than underestimating power needs. I definitely don't plan on going SLI or Crossfire, but I do want a singular high end card along with a CPU upgrade, whenever that may be.

Meh, you've bought it now. Be happy with the purchase and don't look back :)

Gladly fella!

Multiple cards has always intrigued me, but it's not a lifelong ambition like in your case lol. I've always been put off because of the heat and noise, but with cards getting more efficient at least I've got options now.

I was exaggerating a bit there :D

Don't fight the urge - get two Titan X's!

My 'lifelong ambition' is to get a single high end card, maybe not the Titan X, but something not far off it performance wise. However, SLI or Crossfire may well be the better option if I pick the right cards, it could even work out cheaper.

We'll see anyway, at least now I won't be worrying about the HX giving up the ghost, I've been too scared to play any PC games because of it.
