How time flies.

SuperFlower Leadex Gold 650w. Invoice date 02/10/2014. Price, £56.66

Just calculated my current needs through the Be Quiet! website and 650w is probably ok, but I do have my eye on potentially getting a new CPU / GPU if BF6 turns out good, so thinking maybe a 750w to give me some leeway.

Done a bit of research and looking at these two -

Any others in the same kind of price range worth looking at? Veering towards the Be Quiet! as it's platinum. That's better, right?

The Corsair RMx is made by CWT. Normally well respected but there a few reports of failures in this new model which put me off.

I think the Be Quiet is made by HEC. They build according to budget so quality is quite variable between models.

Antec HCG Pro are worth a look, they are made by Seasonic (based on their Vertex PX range). However, the smallest is 850W and so a bit higher cost. Antec do have 750W models in other ranges but I am not sure who the OEM is.

What is it powering?
Any planned hardware upgrades?

How are the 12v rails holding up under load? (can check with hardware monitor or hwinfo)

If there's minimal droop on the 12v under load (11.8/11.9v is absolutely fine) then I'd just leave it alone tbh.

The Asus TUF has been on offer a lot lately, which made it one of the cheapest ATX 3.x Gold units with a long warranty.

MSI's A850G PCIE5 is also on offer sometimes.

If I had the budget, I'd get Antec's HCG unit as suggested above, but it is expensive.

Asus has a new version of the Strix that is platinum rated and the price seems reasonable (for the 850), though hwbusters' review noted a few issues.

For the most part the difference in efficiency and power savings is very small, but it does depend how much power you're using and how often.

Cheers, I'll check and come back

I bought the Asus Tuf gold 1000w when it was on offer and it runs very well - it is currently on offer for £119.99 here BUT is pre-order only.

However I note that the Phanteks AMP GH 1000w 80Plus Platinum is currently on offer at £128.99 and if I were buying now it would be a toss up between this and the Asus (the phantecs is made I believe by Seasonic and has an an 8 Yr warranty)

Phanteks has done a Corsair and cheaped out on the OEM. The Phanteks AMP GH 1000w 80Plus Platinum is not a Seasonic built unit and is built by Helly instead, a chinese OEM which is probably why the warranty has dropped to 8 years from the original AMP's 10 years. While it should be a decent unit I can't find a single proper in depth review so until I see what the insides are like and how it performs I would not be recommending one.

Thanks for the info Pastymuncher - As I cannot find an full review of new Phanteks maker I would tend to back the Asus Tuf .

Thanks for all your replies. I've ended up doing that really annoying thing by asking for advice and then doing something else.

On the way. Warranty is 12 years which gives me comfort and it's the same price as the others, plus it's Seasonic.

May as well bump it up to 850w that will leave you a bit if you upgrade, saving that I ran a 3090ti on one with no problems, core are very good, rma warranty is excellent.

I wa looking at it, s but for an extra £40 I can't see me needing it. I've looked at what my possible max upgrade path may be (5700X3D CPU / 7700XT GPU) and it should still be plenty :)

Was just looking at the 850w Seasonic and it only as 10 Years warranty when the 750w offers 12!!
I think that is just a typo. If I recall correctly, when the Vertex was originally released the warranty was 10, but now it is 12.

For this reason, effective immediately, the factory warranty on all Seasonic VERTEX series power supplies will be upgraded from the current 10 years to an industry-leading period of 12 years worldwide. This upgrade includes all VERTEX units that have already been sold prior to today’s date. The calculation of the warranty period starts on the date of the original purchase. All other warranty terms apply as they did before.

Well it's arrived and the box says 10!
