Once vista codec pack was installed and now there 100.65 drivers out, I have no problem playing anything on my vista. I'm surprised tbh.

Have you tried a vista codec or ace mega pack ?

Yeah just seen in another thead the Vista COdec pack - It looks promising. I'll try that tomorrow. Cheers bud

im running vista rc2 dual boot with xp , ive not had this black screen video problem, im running with asrock am2nf6g-vsta with the nf-6100-405 graphics chipset using the 9754 nvidia drivers.

playback is smooth even when playing 1080p wmv content.

I can't really see the point of a company wanting their package to be Vista exclusive

I agree. Therefore with the massive XP base, software companies are not going to release Vista only apps in a hurry (unlike what happened with 98 and XP) so the only reason to upgrade to vista is what?

Incidentally I just performed a search for uninstalling Vista from a dual boot system. Time to finally take the plunge with Linux. If I am to learn a new OS, might as learn Linux.

the thing thats annoying me more than anything about vista is how much the HD loads ALL the time.

Try disabling Windows Defender and see if the hard disk activity stops.

I can't for the life of me figure out why some people are surprised that Vista isn't running as smoothly as XP. Who in their right mind would seriously believe this if they'd engaged their brains for a nanosecond before purchasing. It's a no-brainer if ever there was one! :)

Give it a few months and 99% of these issues will be resolved. Until then, stop moaning and just grin and bare it. Or just dual boot for god's sake!!

The big issue with Vista that will never be resolved is that it offers little or nothing for most people over what XP does.

Ok all,

After looking around in the nVidia forums it seems as though my issue not being able to watch video is connected with the new set of x64 Vista drivers. A lot of people are bing told to update their graphics chipset divers or something?!

Anyone shed any light on this??

You tried this??

1. Open VLC media player.
2. Click on Settings and select Preferences… .
3. Expand Video and click on Output modules.
4. Check Advanced options in the lower right corner.
5. Set Video output module to either “DirectX“, “OpenGL” or “Windows GDI“

Agreed, I had the black screen problem a few weeks ago, switching to opengl fixed it for me. I think its down to 'limited' (still) graphics drivers.
