Sorry if this is against any rules but people may no longer look at the 'PC won't boot' thread.
The Spec:
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (2 lots of 2gb packs)
Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) with Noctua NH-U12F heatsink
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Hiper HPU-4M580 580W ATX2.2 PSU (As far as I know it's still this one!)
Basically I have decided to replace the motherboard and PSU. As far as I can tell I have 2 options.
-Get a new 775 socket mobo and keep the e6750
-Get a new intel/amd mobo with a new processor.
The problem with getting the new intel/amd socket mobo will mean I also have to replace my memory with DDR3 which is an extra cost, as well as a new heatsink.
Seeing as I'm looking to spend as little as possible, I should probably be going for an AMD? If I'm to keep the e6750 CPU I'll be able to squeeze in a new HDD I think, but I reckon it'll be more sensible to go with a new processorand future proof it a little more? Ideally I was looking to only spend 2-300 on any of these but that seems unrealistic and will need at least £400.
Any ideas as to whats best for me? I play games etc, sometimes video editing.
