Had my car up for sale now for just over a week, christ the time wasters are everywhere!

Had someone offer 7800 for my car, thats almost a grand below part-ex value, do they think im stupid!

Hope I can sell it soon though, seems the value has sky dived in just 7 months!

Seems to be quite common tbh, I've got quite a few pals who have got cars up for sale on ph & at etc and can't seem to sell them, people offering silly offers etc.

ive not had a bad time with selling mine over the last fortnight. sold to the second viewer, lots of random texts offering this and that in PX and one guy thinking his Seat Leon Cupra was worth about £2k more than any other Cupra in the UK ever.

Both blaggers that came to see mine claimed to also own mega powered machinery (800bhp-900bhp skyline and the other claimed to have a 600bhp lancia delta..) but both squeaked like girls when i opened the taps on the barge, go figure

This is why I am aggresive & ignorant on the phone, I literally try to put people off & am harsh, I say things like;

Don't bother coming without the cash mate as I won't even come out my house !

No I won't tell you what I will take, Come & bid me or leave me alone !

How can you offer a bid over the phone without seeing my Motor, Get lost !

If any Asians ring up I tell them the motor is Sold as they are the Biggest Messers around. Even if they buy the car they come back 3 months later & ask you why the headlight bulb has blown or summit.

Hope you sell it! It can be difficult shifting cars over 5 grand.

Yes, people make stupid offers all the time - I guess many expect to negotiate and think starting nice and low gives them room to manoeuvre.

I've given up paying anything more than 3 grand on a car these days. As you said, the amount it can depreciate is shocking so I never like to spend much in the first place.

Sounds harsh.. but it is soo right. I get it all the time being a electrician, PITA

Sold mine last year for about £3500. Had a few idiots phone up. One offered £1000 because 'it was an old bmw and they bought one like it last year for the same money'. Hmm ok /puts phone down. Luckily someone came (from 190 miles away) who knew what they wanted and could appreciate the condition.

Depends on the car really, for classic/vintage cars the buyer knows what they want and what to look for.

General cars you always get em trying it on.

the guy im sitting next to now is looking to put his 52reg e46 320 saloon for sale, practically the most generic car going. good luck with that!

then my other half emails, she wants to sell her 05 1.4 fiesta. thats going to be a pain. at least dealing with stuff like the S4 you end up dealing with petrolhead types

Usualy when I get phone calls with silly offers a few k lower than the cars worth, I tell them if you can find them at that price tell me cus I will buy 10 of them.

Sold my fair share of normal cars too! Sometimes I feel I have to beat them off with a stick, jamming wads of money in my face :p Can't complain!

Going to definitely use these lines when i advertise my car and get muppets ringing.

Selling cars privately is a PITA.

I had a weird guy turn up who I took for a decent length test drive. He then asked to just take it around the block "to make sure it feels alright" which I agreed to.

As we set off he then tells me that he had written off 3 cars in the last month... great.

I also had a 17 year lad who asked if he could bring "a mate along who knows about cars" which I agreed to. Then 3 cars turned up and 15 yoofs stepped out. The neighbours curtains were twitching and I think the local PCSOs spider senses were tingling but they turned out to be decent enough lads but didn't make me an offer on the car.

TBH never again on a cheap car. It can go in the auctions to be sat on, poked and proded by the local ***** population and hopefully a couple of interested people will bid it up to around trade value.
