tinnitus?

I seem to 'get' tinnatus sporadically. It materialises as a constant high frequency whine in my left ear. It's pretty quiet, and I can go a long time without realising it's there.

I have it now infact, and it's been bothering me since yesterday. If it does worsen I'll go to the docs and maybe get my lugs syringed, which is a good 'cure' if you have a wax/other buildup (which can cause tinnatus) in your ears. Mine normally goes after a day or two, so hopefully it'll not bother me again for a while. I was considering to post my own thread earlier, but CBA TBH :p :D

There are cochlea implants but they sounds digitized at the moment and the brain takes a while to process and learn how to hear through them. Im sure there'll be more research into this area.

The ear is an astounding organ, only once you learn about it you realise how intricate and amazing it is.

Ear plugs.

Always wore them when I was a lighting tech for live events, saved my hearing especially when fixing lights in-front of 20'000w of speaker stacks :)

Either buy cheap foam ones, or you can get some custom made professional ones.

I'd recommend the cheap ones ;)

I wear ear plugs at live music events, and I've had to turn down my music. I hate it, but I couldn't live without my hearing. The severity varies, but it hasn't been too bad recently - I've really been very sensible with the music volume, so fingers crossed its either getting better or plateau'd and I'm used to it more now.

I used to have noticeable tinnitus when I was younger, around 10-15yrs old. Noticeable almost every night only when I had my ear to the pillow, sounded like I had a cricket in my ear.

Now I only really hear it after having been to a loud party or event somewhere for that night only. Also, once every few weeks I get a high pitched whine in one ear and it feels like the pressure in that ear has changed, sort of feels like when you come out of a club and gradually it feels like someone is pulling the cotton wool out of your ear. I'm guessing this is tinnitus or a related problem. I try to avoid going to loud places and dont listen to music with earphones anymore but use headphones if I can't use speakers.

I have a constant high frequency whine from too many overly loud band rehearsals in pokey little rooms. Cant get to sleep without the radio or some music playing as it drives me mad. Also every now and then the hearing in my left ear seems to fail and a really loud high pitched whine kicks in, hasnt lasted longer than thirty seconds or so but usually makes me jump with fright.

Have been using ear plugs for a while now and it certainly doesnt seem to have gotten any worse.

My hopes are they they will invent replacement ear-drums etc in the future, if not, I better start learning sign, because I love my loud music too much heh.

I'm still up because I've just got back from a gig with my band and they're so loud that my head is humming and theres no way I will sleep yet.
On top of that I have to wear in ear monitors on full blast to get my vocals over the top of them.

Unless you guys want to lead a debilitating life of depression with alcohol, anti-anxiety and sleeping meds as the only escape, i suggest you all become a little more sensible and vigilant when it comes to protecting your hearing. Unfortunately for me, i wasn't sensible; too many bands, too many concerts, too many rehearsals without protection. So, protect your hearing with your life, if you don't, it'll take it from you, i speak from experience.

Sorry if this was over the "medical" threshold. Hope everyones tinnitus subsides, someday. :)

Every now and then get a ringing in my ears, goes after a couple of seconds. After gigs get it at night and it's gone by morning, if it becomes more frequent i'll see a doctor I suppose.

My friends Dad has it so bad he has to wear hearing aids. They work in two ways - like a normal hearing aid to amplify sounds so he can hear it over the tinnitus and they also emit a rather strange squeal which is designed to counter act the tinnitus sound as much as it can.

My Dad also has it, from years of listening to Zeppelin I think! His is not that bad though.

I have it but I can only hear it when I'm sitting silently. I get it worse when I've been to a gig etc but it only lasts a few days. Not looking good for the future :(

To put things into perspective, i've known cancer patients with tinnitus, that have said that cancer was nothing compared to the severe/intrusive tinnitus. I feel for anyone who has it to this degree, as i do. Its a daily battle, its crippling and mind numbing. I really do beg of you people that havent gotten to that stage yet, to take any measures you can, to prevent it getting to the point where tinnitus, cannot be masked by even that of a cars, trains and planes. I was a zombie for 6 months, resorted to pitiful measures, and lost my partner of 3 1/2 years because of it, needless to say, the incessant insomnia that comes with it. I'm only just getting used to the idea of living with this noise that will be with me forever (i've had it for 8 years).

You don't want it' i've got it mildly permantently (don't wear earplugs when playing live, only at practise when i'm drumming) plus loads of loud music over the years, i love rock gigs, clubs etc.
I had very bad tinitus temporarily for a month after a particularly heavy night, it was like an underwater kick drum and a cement mixer had somehow got into my ear. Persistant ringing and pulsations, it felt so wierd. I'm so glad it went away.

I do occasionally need to take measures to fall asleep, doubles of strong drink til i'm drowsy usually.

I have it mildly but it doesn't affect me at all. I still have excellent hearing but when it's silent I can hear my ears ringing very clearly. I got used to it and it actually helps me sleep now.
