Tinted windows

I recently got the supposed best kind (carbon film) on the rear windows (i.e., sides + hatch) - the tint-level doesn't really factor into the pricing. You'll find people who'll do the job with cheap films that will photodegrade (typically to purple) for just over £100...the long-lasting stuff will set you back a bit over £200 though.

For the record, I got the tints for the baby's benefit...

I got all of mine done for £200 or so, but this was a few years back, that came with a 10 year warranty, think it was the same stuff as Hamish below, high UV and heat protection, so makes the car much more comfortable to be in, in the middle of summer. Was a great use when I took the car to Croatia the other year and it was 35c outside.

Dark smoke has never made sense to me.

Dark enough to make it clear that you're trying, not mega tinted enough to actually stop people from making out who/what is on the other side of the tints.

Either way, you're looking at about £200.

Exactly, you can pay hardly anything for tints and get crappy boy racer ones that will crack and peel and eventually turn purple.
I got the best ones on mine - 3M Crystalline with 90% heat rejection and 99% UV and they were about £300, I can leave my car in the sun for a couple of hours when it's 40C outside and it's still pretty cool when I get in, and when I'm driving I can leave the fan on minimum and it cools well.

I got dark smoke...it's a compromise for sure, but I wasn't willing to go as far as limo tints.

But if you're going to go to the point of dark smoke which makes it obvious that you've got after fit tints, surely you might as well go the whole hog?

Do tints help to keep the heat out much? Have thought about doing my rear sides on a light tint for that reason.

Greater residual night vision, less drug dealer/pseudo-celebrity ass-hattery, and I think they suit the car better than limo tints (platinum mkII octavia). That, and scum can hopefully see there's nothing on my back seat/in the rear foot-wells should they look hard enough.

The car is still 1/2 a greenhouse...it will be cooler, but given long enough it'll still be hot.
