I've got a chip in my windscreen which is probably only 1mm deep and about 2mm wide. In your experience do these things tend to get worse? Should I be bothered about trying to repair something so small, or will it probably be OK?

If you believe the adverts on the TV as soon as you go over a speed bump your windscreen will explode, killing you and destroying your car.

Its nothing more than luck.

Some chips will be cracked within hours some will go for years.

There must be some truth in the matter if between me and my colleagues we replace about 60 windscreens a day.

Edit: Are there any visible cracks coming from the original impact point?

Only worry when you have a crack like this....

Sorry no I was just wondering if you were actually someone who worked with windscreens and I checked your profile which confirmed my suspicions :D

I've got a tiny chip bang in my eyeline on the front screen, does that normally need sorting out before an MOT?

It's minuscule, 1mm at the most.

I should probably get this replaced at some point. Can't wait for the ice and frost to come!

Was a half-inch stone chip completely out of sight in July :(

Like Howard said 10mm or smaller in the A zone isn't a worry for MOT. With the A zone being defined as 145mm either side of the center of the steering wheel, or the drivers seat if the steering wheel/seat are offset.

Anywhere else on the windscreen I think is 40mm by MOT standards, but our repair guideline is 10mm A zone, 15mm B zone (Drivers side wiper sweep), 25mm C zone (Passenger wiper sweep), 40mm D zone (Anywhere not covered by another zone already)
