Um maybe not, if the smaller partition alignment is wrong then extending won't create the correct offset. Better to create the partition yourself, set the offset and make it active. The W7 installer will use it as is, without changes.

This is a total waste of time... you'll still have those files copied across during installation. They're kept in a seperate partition at the start of the hard drive because they're boot files. By extending the partition all you achieve is the potential for the files to be scattered across more of the hard disc. Does a 100MB partition really bug you _that_ much?
