Pretty sure we had a thread on this but can't find it

Anyway, just paid £80 for a spreadsheet on Fiverr.com, and Fiverr then asked if I'd like to tip the guy who created the spreadsheet. I literally just paid the guy and it's asking if I want to tip him, what the hell is that all about?

didn't know that a site like this existed.... one hour work for £13 to create a Powershell script........ people must be desperate.

I thought the tipping culture wasn't as common outside the US now.. I only tip £5 at restaurants regarding on the total cost, tipping for a spreadsheet is bizarre though!

Yes people are desperate. Isnt that about what what a Junior doctor gets?

No tipping here, people get fair wages. If people want to use 5er for their main income or side hustle that's on them.

Erm no not always. As above.

Paying for a spreadsheet? Didn't even know that was a thing, guessing it was something pretty specific.

I suck at this kind of thing and I've been wanting this spreadsheet for ages. I've tried numerous times myself but lose interest and get frustrated an hour in. Now I just paid a man and have what I need.

For me to tip someone has to go Above and beyond thier job.

For example a waitress saved me much discomfort when I asked "could I have this without chilli".
She twigged I didn't like hot stuff and advised even without the chilli I wouldn't like it.
She was right. Someone else on the table had it. And it was hot! :D

Tipping people who are self-employed/have highly variable pay anyway seems kinda BS tbh...

Waiters in a restaurant who otherwise earn a set hourly wage then sure, I'll tip, it's pretty much expected these days anyway and so you account for it in advance.

Self-employed person running a food van who surprises you with a touch screen indicating: 10%, 15%, 20%... GTFO, you set the prices already you chump, if you want 20% more then just add 20% more to your prices.

American culture.
Correct etiquette is to not tip and tell the guy to go..
This is preciely right, in this case, the guy is his own business, both employee and owner, in the US owner are paid appropriately, and do not pay their staff, so the culture remains reliant on tipping as a subsidy.
In this case, the business owner completed the task and deserves **** all of a tip, asking is utterly absurd.
In all likelyhood he got a nice wee fella in unpaid India to do the work for him by outsourcing anyway, so not to worry, someone somewhere got ripped off anyway.

Tipping culture disgusts me, if a business cba to pay its own staff, it doesn't deserve to exist. Charge appropriately, pay appropriately.

Tipping encourages others to do better.

Annoyingly if you order from McDonalds via their app (who use Uber as their delivery people) there is an option to give a tip to the driver. This is even before you place your order. I'd prefer it if the tip option came up after delivery.
