Hey iv read though the guides on overclocking on different sites and here but i just want some advice first hand, iv heard my CPU is a decent overclocker.

heres my system:

Current System:

Processor: E8500 Duo 3.16GHz OC'ed to 3.8GHz
CPU Cooler: Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom
Memory: 4094MB RAM 1033MHZ Kingston
Hard Drive: 500 GB
Video Card: Zotac GTX 470
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Motherboard: P5QL Pro Asus
Computer Case: NZXT Alpha
PSU: 550W Corsair

System idles around 35 degrees

but isnt stable and fails prime and OCCT tests (not enough vcore?)

only things iv changed are the bios setting i was told to disable

and the FSB to 400 (anything higher and i BSOD)

while the vcore being on auto (bad idea?)

this gives me 3.8GHz (fails tests), i would be really happy if i could hit 4GHz (iv seen e8500's hit 4.5GHz)

should i raise the vcore or?

the ram is set to 1:1

pretty knew to this so help would be great currently at work so information is limited but would love some direction.

thanks for your time

I have a similar question, but I am using the E8400, I got it yo 3.6 and all tests were OK, I had to actually decrease the vcore as the auto was putting up ptoo much, so my v is 1.2375.

What I am wondering is about my RAM, I am using the 8500 Corsair 1066 5-5-5-18 at 8GB so 2gbx4. The mobo has already made the RAM 800 since it can't handle the 4 slots being poppulated, using the Striker II ASUS board.

What I done was to put the FSB at 1600 so 3.6Ghz, RAM at 800 as it was and voltage at 1.2375. This seemed to work but again... I really don't want to kill the RAM. So should I take the RAM down to 667 since I am using 4 slots? What I done now is increase the RAM to 6-6-6-20 as this might help. I ran Prime for about 2 3 hours and all was good but still.

Xerco if you don't have 4 RAM slots populated it should be quite simple, use what I done and stick the v at 1.2375 or check youtube, they have quite a few tutorials on how to overclock E8400 and E8500. My concern is the 4 RAM slots as I heard having 4 slots populated makes OC harder. I think most peole won't go above v 1.31 since it kills the CPU.

yah iv got 2 2gb sticks, alright mate thanks for the help, il try upping the vcore and see how that works out.

good luck with your oc'ing

Xerco your ram is rated at 1033MHz stock but you have raised the FSB to 400 with the RAM 1:1 ratio so it will be running at 1600MHz so it is also overclocked. Try dropping the RAM multiplyer so it runs at the next speed down & see if it is stable.
