I'm DJ'ing at an event a mate is putting on tonight and i've got that awful feeling in my stomach, i'm in two moods whether to ring him up and say I can't do it that's how bad I feel.

I've played at quite a few raves/outdoor parties a few times and everytime it's the same, I must be the only DJ who dosen't like playing out!

Anyone got any tips for controlling nerves? :)

Personally I don't really get nervous, on the odd occasion I do a couple of deep long breathes and tell myself I am being stupid usually does the trick.

You can get a herbal remedy called Calms that is supposed to help but I've no idea how good they are.

If you know that you've done it before and that you can do it well then why get nervous?

I used to love pre set nerves tbh, Just remember Beer will dull your senses, Wine on the other hand wine used to make me more creative, I'm sure there's NO scientific bases to that, its just how It was with me (still is infact).

So in answer to your question, have a large glass of wine and go enjoy yourself

Too late to cancel - that would be bad form. Perhaps not offer again though.

What is it that you don't like? Psyche yourself up beforehand - be determined to enjoy it. Think of the positives - money, potential for totty, etc!

Having a drink is one thing, but probably don't risk it - it's better to be nervous than ******.

I have tried Kalms and I'm not sure if they help much but worth a go. They contain something called Valerian but it's only 135mg. You can get Valerian Root capsules though and they're about 450mg or so. Might be worth checking these out, I've read some decent reviews about them.

You are DJ'ing, not giving a Presedential speech of inauguration :)

Just man the hell up, have a quick few shots to calm those nerves beforehand and then bust out some fat jams for the peoples.

Is it really that bad = no
Will you have many people talking to you, requesting songs, including fit ladies = probably yes

The problem lies.....where? :p

Main thing i'm worrying about is the setup, too many times i've gone somewhere and the needles have been skipping all over, crackly mixers etc just makes me look bad!

And the fact the stage is all spotlighted up and i'm gonna be the center of attention for a couple of hundred people.

Should enjoy it really, need to get a grip!

 :D

Masturbate whilst doing the set so that if something goes wrong people will be more interested/concerned by you masturbating that they won't care if the music is skipping/scratching.

Seriously mate, you got some experience by the sounds of it so thats a start!

As SS said, rub one out for the remainer of the time you wait (if anything to take your mind off it). Empty your bowls before hand in case you get so nervous you have an "accident" and then just go enjoy yourself.

As far as I know DJ's are always meant to be getting the laydeez at the end of a night and if not you will have a good time anyway so whats the worry!? Are you getting paid for it?

Do you not have your own kit? or atleast your own decks or something to avoid this.

If you going somewhere, and they want you to play, you should make some demands to be honest.

I'd love to DJ, I go to events all over the place and i'd love to be behind on the stage making people happy.

However I do not have that creative flare...And the music I like people don't really like over here so I'd have to go abroad to play anyway :p

I always wonder how to cope with going on stage.

But once I'm on I am so wrapped up in things I don't notice the time I'm on stage. I really do live in character.

Just enjoy it :).
