Tips for working in a call centre

Starting a new job tomorrow, in this financial climate it's get a job, then look for better so anyhoo I'm into a call centre tomorrow

Having never done this type of work before....

Any tips?

develop a thick skin very very quickly.

don't take things personally.

when your shift ends, don't take the job home with you.

On a serious note..

I don't think there is much advice we can give except talk nicely and the customer is always right...even when they're wrong.

This is good advice, I work in a call centre but thankfully I'm in IT and not on the phones, no way I could deal with some of the idiots that phone in.

Enjoy making a fair bit of money for a fairly easy job, don't lose your cool if someone happens to be a little irate

I wasn't trying to be funny

ok I was, but I have worked in a call centre myself, I lasted two weeks before going out and finding another job. Its diabolically boring, and you have to polite to people no matter what and the managers are all idiots.

I worked for fujitsu tech support for 4 months (outsourced Lloyds TSB tech support, man the bank staff there are idiots!) and this is by far the best advice you can give on the topic really.
