Haha i borrowed one of these last summer off a friend to ride to the gym and back. Dual suspension jobby. The saddle was awful, the brakes were crap, bounced around all over the place, weighed about 7 tons. Only good thing was not paying for it

Dejab back as it cracked down the downtube and they said it was a scratch in the paint work. It's not painted and when you lean on the frame it opened up.

If by worth it you mean being alive, sure. And around 15-20 quid i think for a cheapish one.
thats exactly the sort of thing you should buy for £40
slick tyres , working brakes , good condition , mudguards (which will be very useful when commuting!)
the naff suspension fork adds some un necessary weight but beggars cant be choosers !
Looks decent enough fot the money. As for the helmet, personaly on the road I don't wear one, off road I do. Reasonable ones start at about £40.
