Tips on Presentations

Off the top of my head and things i try to do;

Stand up when presenting
Engage the audience
Look around the crowd
Make eye contact with others
Don't look down at notes
Don't slouch
Speak in a confident voice
Know your material
I like pointing at things projected on the screen every now and again

Don't drone or repeat yourself and if you have the opportunity and it's appropriate feel free to smile!

Only thing worse than a boring presentation is one where the presenter clearly isn't enjoying it either.

Talk it through as though you are presenting it
dont read the slides
look at everyone
walk around a bit. dont stand in one place like a statue
ask questions and get feedback as yoiur doing it
use peoples names if you them
look for signs of disinterest
time the presentation so you dont spend too long or too litle time on each section
emphasis messages, repeat those messages in the phrases you want to get across

Yep one of the worst mistakes you can make is having too much detail on the slides, no-one likes a presentation based on someone simply reading the info off the screen.

ok
each slide should last around 40 seconds, longer fior the 1st and last.
first should set out topics and last reinforce
keep slide animations simple, but make sure all the slide information does not come up straight away, as people will read it and not hear what you say
know what you are going to say, find different ways of saying the same thing to help different styles of listener to understand

In addition to the tips above I'd suggest practicing with a friend or family to gauge the speed of the presentation, it'll help you to gain confidence in the material and also it should give you a better chance of getting the pacing right.

Any slide content should be there as a backdrop to your presentation, they are NOT your main content delivery mechanism, that is YOUR job. Sure, if you need to illustrate something then the focus will be on the slide but outside of this they should simply be a backdrop to your presentation. You need to engage the audience, keep it nicely paced and ideal light hearted where possible. Don't go over and over the same point, make emphasis where it's needed but don't labour things. NEVER read from slides, it's awful and shows someone who has no understanding of their message.

Most of all enjoy it.

My only piece of advice having done my fair share of good (and bad) presentations is to KNOW YOU STUFF. Know about your subject matter and simply use the slides as prompts to regurgitate your own knowledge.

Naturally thats not the ONLY piece of advice you should consider mind.
