Pretty much as per the title - I'm about to fit a Titan Fenrir Evo to my 955 BE and I want to know whether to use the grease that comes with it or some MX-3 that I've got in the house.

Thoughts?

Cheers. Will fit shortly then, been putting it off since I opened the box and saw dozens of fittings etc. Hopefully I won't break anything.

It come's with TIM > Royal Grease Thermal Compound > googled it came up with nothing > you may as well use the latest Arctic Cooling Thermal Paste > MX4 a lot easier to spread than MX3 and better temp's....

I'm just going to use what I've got and go with the MX-3. I'm not aiming to get much more out of the 955 anyway - got it at 3600 with the stock heatsink and fan.

Gah. Got the stock cooler off, reached for the fitting instructions for AM3 and I can't find them. AM2 and AM2+, and K8 yes, but not AM3.

Posting from phone now. Could someone tell me if the fitting is the same as one of the others? Tried going on the Titan website but my phone isn't agreeing with either flash or java. Alternatively could someone dig out a direct link to the correct fitting instructions for me please?

Well that was an absolute cow of a job. I have the dexterity of the jolly green giant and it really showed. It's taken me two and a half hours total. The majority of that was dealing with other little jobs as they came up - everything was made more difficult because of how much room the Fenrir takes up. Beast of a thing it is.

That said fitting the thing was a nightmare - I used the 'pea' approach with the MX-3 but I couldn't get the heatsink to stay still whilst I slotted and screwed the bracket into place. It felt like I needed an extra hand - maybe I should draft the missus in to help. As a consequence I can't help but think that the MX-3 hasn't been properly applied. Oh, and in the pic below - I managed to knock the blue thing in the middle with Gigabyte written on top of it. I'm not sure what it is but it feels fairly loose now (though not as though it's going to come off.

My idle temps (in a warm house thats had heating on all day, and with case near a radiator) is around 27 degrees, which isn't much less than normal (about 4 degrees less.) That being said I've had Prime95 running for about 5 minutes and under load it seems to settle around 48-49 (this is all with voltages at whatever is their default.)

As requested, a couple of pic's:

Thing you "knocked" is just the north bridge i think, looks good but big! Does the fan only fit on one side of the cooler? if not you could just change the side its on...
