Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a pre-built gaming PC by OC with a budget of between £1400-£1600.
I was hoping to get your opinion on the 7th vs 8th Gen Intel chips with virtually the same spec. The Chromium with i5 cofffeelake chip is £300 cheaper. What would you chose between the two specs listed below?

And any alternatives and changes would be welcome.
Thanks for your time

Chromium for sure, end of line for i7 7700k, old tech, only few fps difference vs i7 7700k and and with that £300 saved ,you can upgrade to a better cpu or gpu in few years... Maybe ask them to change psu....

Thanks for your reply! I was hoping i could use the extra £300 for i7 Coffee Lake, but there aren't any pre-built specs within my budget. Is it a matter of waiting for a bit longer to see what OC have to offer? Or would you recommend ordering parts separately and getting OC to build ensure getting their 3 yr warranty.

Depends on game, some games do show lot of fps difference when overclocked where as others dont. Keep in mind with overclocking you ll need better psu and cooling too so that would increase total cost of system... Also another point is you are getting a blower type graphic card where cooling and noise could be an issue, they will probably use basic cooler for your cpu too. So you ll need to either increase your budget or custom build it yourself with better components...

Below is good config for £1700 if you think you can build it yourself, quality components, better cooling then prebuild system above, This doesnt have windows so add another £95 for windows 10

2nd option, can always drop an i7 k in a few years time for extra run , if your going to game at 1440p 144hz or 1440p ultra wide, use the cash saved for Ti to make £1600 :D

spec another gtx 1080 other then Asus turbo- loud - cooler isnt as good as FE - or make sure you've got damn good airflow

I suggest you do your own configuration and have OCUK assemble and warranty. I wouldn't buy a 4 core i7 now that 6 core mainstream are out. Future proof dat rig.
