Titan X, 980TI or wait?

GTX 980ti for me, you can get a second hand one on the MM like I did for just shy of £400. I wouldn't drop £600 at this point but if you can get one for that price I would. Should be more than enough for the foreseeable imo.

Since you mention Titan X and 980 Ti, you obviously want top end, in which case yuo might as well buy now as top end pascal is a long way off yet.

A 980ti would be a good solution, though you won't see massive performance increases. Yeah, you can wait, but likely the top-end cards will release late in the year, so why not enjoy a 980ti now, re-sell it later, and then upgrade again?

I mean, you'll get to enjoy it for nearly a year & it still has good re-sale value, is that not worth the 100 quid you'll be down later? Hell, people pay hundreds of pounds to be in Greece and stare at seashells all day, and yet everyone's always "oh, gotta wait for next gen" even though it's still far away, how does that make sense?

Imo **** the 780s, get a 980ti and enjoy it.

^^^^ This :)

Lol it's true, I guess even my 780's aren't too bad, they cost me I think £860ish and are still worth £400 over two years on.

I could just grab a 980TI as nearly a straight swap to get rid of SLI compatibility issues, then re-assess late in the year.

There is one MAJOR problem though, how would I run my surround setup + other accessory displays AND the Rift? I absolutely NEED seven outputs lol :)

In truth, I rarely use the box to switch those three inputs over to my main gaming rig :) I just do it for fun sometimes, when I have music vids on when playing or info screens on beside games, I normally run surround on both separate machines.

Think you're over estimating that a bit tho to be honest. 970s which are better in pretty much every way have been selling for less.

They'll always be demand for old cards though, someone who wants the exact card they have. The AMP's are great cards, and I've seen 780 AMP's go on ebay for over £200. True, I've also seen them go for a lot less. But it's the same as anything, I saw a Titan X go on ebay for £450 earlier this month that I was tempted to get, they normally go for 600+.

I'm not too fussed anyway, if I got 160-180 each, that's still the best of 400 towards a new card :)

Ti's can be bought new for 200-215 (an fetching 160-180 in MM)so getting 400+ for twin 780's is a no chance unless sold to some body who hasn't a clue on there value.

I was going hold out for the Pascal Ti but read that its due date in Q4 this year with subject to change, but with the amount of driver problems im getting on my 80Ti im jumping ship at the end of the month for 980Ti's.

Don't count to much on pascal if your in need (desperately) of an upgrade,if its due to problems like i am with drivers upgrade sooner, but if its just an upgrade itch an every thing runs fine wait out for the pascal chips.

Non reference Overclocked 780TI's are going for £250-£270 easy on ebay, but anyhoo, I'm not on here to argue about price on what my cards are worth, I was merely stating I can still get nearly half their value back.

It's a tough one, jump ship now and get a 900 series or Titan, then upgrade again later? Or see how mine do then where it goes.

I'm in two minds the more I think about it.

I've been the same for the past couple of months :( been a right nightmare with the driver problems.for me.

TBH, if the whole SLI vs VR thing was a non-issue I would be 100% convinced to keep my current setup until higher end pascal hits.

It's stuff like Galopin's post on the below that is frustrating:

https://forums.oculus.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=28945&start=20

So that's the main reason I am feeling pressure to find a single GPU solution.

Just my head is thinking that it's not worth it at this moment in time in terms of performance vs value with the current gen.

Standard "Something new in several months so you may as well stick it out" reply.

Let's be honest, there's always something new around the corner, but you'll still be waiting several months.

I've basically considered "**** it, i'll buy another 980Ti and sell up when big Pascal is about"

I would wait to be honest. Get your CV1 and give it a go, have a play around with it and discuss your findings. By that time we will hopefully know more about the new cards from both vendors. Waiting will not cost you anything, but it usually gets you more info with which to make a buying decision.

If the 780's SLI setup isn't cutting it with CV1, then make your choice.

:D

It sounds like your 780s are doing fine for most of the games you play so I'd probably stick with them until you at least know how they'll perform with the oculus. With big pascal still likely quite a while away it may also be worth considering buying a 980ti as an interim card and then selling it before big pascal launches so that you can enjoy it for the meantime at the cost of whatever loss you make when you eventually sell it.

There's always something new around the corner is true to a point but not everyday we get a die shrink which will net us 50% plus performance.

Comes down to 2 choices for about the same money and likely performance.

1. Get a GTX 980 Ti now.

2. Wait 4 or 5 months and get a Small Pascal card.

I don't think there is going to be a huge performance difference between the above options but the Small Pascal card could be a small amount faster.

Really it depends what you can afford to do. From what I understand the true replacement for the GTX 980Ti isn't expected until the tail end of the year. That's exactly why I myself just upgraded from a GTX 970 to GTX 980Ti. If funds were tight I probably would have waited, so it just depends.

I am in the same boat as the OP but I have a single 1GB GTX 560Ti lol it seems to have worked out unfortunate that I will need a pretty big graphics update for the CV1 before the new graphics card architecture arrives.
