Titan X, 980TI or wait?

I'm in the same boat as the OP too, i have 2 GTX780's also, but i haven't pre ordered the Rift, i'm prepared to wait it out to see what Nvidia comes up with before upgrading.

Also i'm interested to see how the Rift CV1Vive performs with SLI!

Honestly - its a catch 22 - you could get 980 ti for a wash; most likely have less hassel that sli brings.

Pascal - big Pascal most likely won't be here until 2017 - remember last time Nvidia did node shrink and new memory - 9+ months late for their big chip and those had to be salvaged; and we don't know when small Pascal is coming; some saying soon - others saying a couple quarters from now. I tend to believe that as Nvidia never been able to do node shrinks well.

Honestly if you can get 980 ti for a wash; I'd look at that; but if you don't mind waiting....honestly waiting until you get your rift will give you a better picture.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I decided to wait, after being very indecisive for the past couple of weeks!

I figure the 980 will be a year old already in the next few months, with the shelf life seeming to be around a year I guess pascal should come in the summer? That is unless they go back to the old route of doing dual GPU cards to tied them over?

Either way, I've decided that with both the Titan X and 980TI coming up to a year old, I should wait. I guarantee I will get one and then the new wave will hit shortly after.

I guess my hope is that I wait until the summer and then hope Pascal comes, and with it the newer generation will not only equal my SLI setup but better it by a nice margin and be worth the swap.

Cheers.

There's always something new around the corner is true to a point but not everyday we get a die shrink which will net us 50% plus performance.

The only thing that's in doubt is the 50%+ bit.

Now is the time to wait. Once "now" is in the past, wait again. Eventually the time will come to wait no longer.

As an SLI TX owner, I have learnt something. I have always gone for high end cards, but never £1700 high end before (that's what I used to spend on a whole high end system). If you are going for the new highly expensive ultra high end, do it as soon as possible after launch, then you get more benefit/enjoyment. I would be silly to recommend anything other than the cheapest 980TI (single) at this stage in the lifecycle. My 12 months of glory was surely worth it!

BTW I quite fancy the Nano as the best value card unless you can get TIs for £450 or so.

Whatever you do, do not get anxious, just enjoy.
