It seems to be part of OCUK's pricing policy, not that competitive on all stuff, but great special offers, hence thread titles like this can only be a let down when they are for "mikey mouse" items

I am more interested in saving on my big purchases

I agree with whats been said above, also factor that it only has 2.4v of power inside it. Not going to charge a smart phone at any great rate thats for sure.

Nice idea, but a car charger is far more useful and cheaper.

It does say that the unit charges the batteries from your computers usb port.

You are correct, although I think what he means is that it's primary function is not to charge batteries but your device (phone etc) from said batteries.
