Looking for some suggestions on my current monthly plans on my iPhone 4 which are as below:-

Mobile Broadband Dongle

Both original contracts have now ended so I believe I'm now on a 'rolling contract' from month to month as I haven't signed up for anything new?. I'm quite happy to stay with TMobile as I get good coverage in my area and I've never had any hassle with them at all. I'm not really fussed about trying to get another handset as I'm happy with the iPhone 4 but if another handset was offered to me for free I'd probably take it and sell it on.

To be honest I don't use the mobile broadband USB dongle anymore so I would like to just do away with that. I'm also thinking my current tarrif for my iPhone is a bit high compared to some friends who are on substantially lower tarrifs than this one. Currently my monthly bill inc VAT is @£52. I'm really not using it to its fullest to justify that. I've never gone over my 500mb data limit on the phone, in fact I'm lucky to go anywhere near half that per month.

I'm going to head into town to my local TMob store and quiz them but any advice from you folks would be appreciated. :)

With Three you could get a similar phone tariff for £12.90 per month sim only 12 month deal, but with 600 minutes 5000 texts and 1GB of data.

With quidco you could get £50 back when you purchase it so if you deduct the £50 over 12months it works out at £8.75 per month for a better contract then the one you are on.

if your happy with the phone you need to phone them and get a sim only plan

maybe speak to retentions and say you want to leave as its too expensive and see what they can do for you

for comparason i am paying 7.50 a month for 600mins 500texts 3gb data and free landline

thats a deal from 2 years ago which i have had renewed, i belive the same sim is £15 now?

Quite a difference in monthly costs there then in comparison to my over £50!!!.

@challengedavid - Is that with TMobile?. Do you reckon I would have better luck phoning retentions rather than speak to someone in my local store?. I assume retentions are authorised to offer better deals whereas store staff maybe can't?.

hi, yes its with t-mobile, not sure if you can get the same but i am certain you could do a lot better than your are
i would phone retentions and make out you want to leave due to price, mention the tesco deal as above and see what they offer you, as your clearly paying too much
i have never been to a store so really cannot comment about that

What are virgin media like as a network provider?

Their sim only deals seem awesome!

Essential SIM Only £12
SIM card cost FREE
Your tariff gives you:

1200 minutes
Unlimited texts
1GB Mobile Web

That's on a 30 day rolling contract as well, no tie in!

if you're already a customer of theirs you can get even better deals.

I'm on the same tariff. It's not really comparable to current deals as it's still Web&Walk Plus internet which was removed well over a year ago. It also included a loyalty discount which OP may look into getting by talking to retentions.

you dont need the dongle, just use hotspot on your iphone

Yep, I have PDANet on the phone for that. I signed up to the dongle ages ago but as I said, don't really need it now.

Went into the local TMob shop today and they were pretty clueless. Started off with a complete lack of interest from the first guy I spoke to so I eventually asked if his manager was available. He didn't seem to grasp what I was after and then they couldn't find any details of my account on their system. Eventually when they did find me on their computer they fumbled around and the end result was a shrug of the shoulders and the advice given was 'Yeah, you would probably be better calling retentions'.

Quite annoying, I realise in this day and age you often need to speak to someone on the phone to sort things like this but what happened to the 'human factor'?. I much prefer dealing with people face to face. Cest la vie!!!.

I've always found the stores (no matter what network) to be a total waste of time. Always more expensive than internet/phone deals and often they have no clue.

Who actually gets contracts from a shop these days? Best deals are always online.

The T-Mobile store actually told me they couldn't beat the online price, may as well use that. With attitudes like that, what is the point?

You're paying £37 for a SIM-only contract with 600 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB data?

Wow...

On the T-Mobile site right now you can get a 12 month SIM-only deal with 300 minutes, 5000 texts and 750MB data for £11/month with Quidco cashback.

Give them a call, also try chitter chatter there a 3rd party company that sells T-mobile lines and my Dad tends to use them, got a S2 when it was first released for £20 when t-mobile want £35 even though he had been with them for 12 years now, since the one 2 one days. the Retention lately with T-mobile has been so bad, they deal with you as if your a new customer most of the time it seems.

They don't have a network, essentially a reseller utilising T-mobile & Orange (EE) networks.

Eventually got round to calling retentions today. I'm now on the Business SIM Plan 10 which is more than adequate for my needs. Managed to get them to do it for £7.50 per month. 500 mins, 250 texts and 500Mb data.

One thing I didn't actually check is can you use your iPhone as a wifi hotspot on these SIM only plans?. The terms and conditions mention not being able to use your phone as an 'internet modem'?. But it seems to be working ok here as of now?. I have PDANet installed on the phone.
