To amp or not to amp?

That is the question, for the answer the floor is yours...

Just installed 100w RMS speakers in my car (Rainbow 265 SLC), and a Pioneer 77MP, which runs the speakers fairly well...

I also have a Blaupunkt 80w RMS amp that I COULD fit - but it would take a lot of effort and things seem to work fine as they are - what advantages would I get for my trouble?

I have no experience with blaupunkt amps but I do know that you will be much much better off amping them componants.

You headunit will be massively underpowering them (It's actually better to overpower componants slightly than underpower them). Having said that, if you're completely happy with the volume they output (the max volume before the P77MP distorts - which wont actually be that high I would have thought) then I cant really see a valid reason for putting them in.

If I was in your situation I'd probably try amping them without a full install then decide if its worth the effort.

Amp them without a doubt, you will notice a huge diff well worth the effort i'm currently in the process of running 4AWG from the front of the car to a diss block then 8AWG to my Vibe Black Box which will power the fronts, 4AWG to my PG monoblock in the boot and finally 16AWG for the Pioneer Sat Nav Control Box / HU IPOD adapter.

Lol yes dif thickness of wire, if i hadn't spent so much on stinger 4AWG stuff i would try some of that flat power cable, but alas i don't want to waste yet more money.

Yes you should amp them. They are decent speakers and although it sounds good now it's no where near their full potential.

Personally i'd spend a little and get an amp off ebay that can give them the full whack, a decent Genesis, JL or PG amp.

I chose the Blaupunkt because it was light, small and a good brand. Evaluating my options, I think it is the best choice or near as damn it - consider that this has all been installed in an MX-5 so size and weight are a massive concern...
