To anyone doing the IB . . .

International Baccalaureate (apologies in advance for the spelling ;)).

Good luck, Dave! I hear the IB is becoming much more common in the UK now - I can't say that I think it's anything other than a good thing, given that A Levels are becoming seen as more and more of a joke.

Sounds poncy, what does it do?
It's an internationally recognised system of exams, generally accepted to be more rigourous and of a higher quality than any other courses offered in this country. The third part of the course, for students aged 16-19, is roughly comparable to doing 3 A Levels and 3 ASs, but at a higher standard.

Edit: Reading up on it a bit more, the course is divided into six sections: Primary language, secondary languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics and arts. 'Primary language' would be English in this country, obviously. Students take six courses in their first year, often one from each section but it's not uncommon to say, take three science courses and skimp on the arts and humanities. They then pursue three or four of those into the second year, at 'higher' level.

It's not entirely unlike our AS/A2 system, but seems to place more emphasis on having a rounded education and is a fair bit harder.

Nice and poncy then?

I started doing that course but dropped onto AVCE ICT & Business (AVCE has since been dropped by the government) because I didn't want to do English or the Second Language or CAS or TOC. Basically IB just didn't suit my way of learning and there was a lot of stuff I would have hated doing.

I don't think that it's certifiably more 'poncy' than doing A Levels. I may be wrong though, I've never done an in-depth study on its ponciness. ;)

I have the necessary qualifications to certify ponciness. I shall research this tomorrow and publish my results.

Will you publish the results on the interweb or are you just going to declare them published and eat them on sugar paper?
