have you thought about going for a core 2 duo as opposed to an AMD, you can get a very nice c2d system for the money your thinking about spending.

Also, if your comfortable putting in a few pc parts into a pc, you should give a go building the pc yourself. You get a real feeling of self satisfaction after building and its even cheaper (or lets you buy better parts) :P

Yeah i'd agree with above, build yourself. Just take your time and prepare properly, and all should go smoothly :)

And i'd look into a C2D system, great value and clock well.

I would definately build the system yourself and 100% would go for Core 2 Duo over AMD X2 - much better value and performance even out of the box. If you overclock you can get 50% more MHz's. AMD is a waste of money.

i have never tryed overclocking before so i am new to that.

I agree with everything said above, C2D system, build it yourself.

As for overclocking, you can overclock a C2D easy with a decent board like this (just for examples sake, but it is a great board) and following some simple guides. You can get a 50% overclock usually on stock coolers to.

Quoted for truth.

Ok i have decided to got with the Intel setup. I have also gone for this motherboard so i can upgrade to the quad core processor in a year or so.
Is this a good setup for the price and is this everything i need to get it up and running. Thanks for the input

A mobo based on the P35 chipset would be much better for future upgrades as it supports the 1133MHz FSB of the next soon-to-be-released generation of Intel CPUs.

The WD Raptors are no faster in the real world than larger capacity 7200rpm drives and 74GB is very small these days. I suggest a 320GB, 400GB or 500GB drive in either the Maxtor 7200.10 or WD AAKS ranges.

Get a DVD drive with a black front. It'll look so much nicer than beige in a black case.

but the processer i have chosen is only compatible with new Intel 965 and 975X socket 775 Motherboards. so i couldnt get a motherboard you have suggested?

That's out-of-date info. All current C2D CPUs (and probably all other S775 CPUs) are compatible with the P35 chipset. I assure you I wouldn't suggest a combination that wouldn't work.

HP7909's spec looks good to me.

so you think i should give the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT a miss then?

the drivers for it are not amazing, so it is hit and miss regarding performance in most games.

Might be worth getting the 8800GTS
