Currently using 2 4870 1gb's in crossfire, running a dual monitor set up, running at 1680x1050 on one, 1920x1080 on the other, and have been contemplating changing to a single newer card to cut down on power consumption and free up some space in my case for a decent sound card.

Im assuming there wouldn't be any issues running dual monitors on a newer card, im just wondering if there would be a drop in performance that may make it not worth the bother.

Usage is occasional gaming, only real graphics intensive games are borderlands and will probably get fallout new vegas soon. Movies and Vids.

I've always fancied the 2gb Sapphire Vapor cards, but what alternatives are there and what would suit my needs.

Full spec is:

AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 2.80GHz @ 3.30GHz
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard
Corsair Dominator 8GB DDR3 XMS3 PC2-1600C9D TwinX
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
GAINWARD ATI RADEON HD 4870

Not really, open to anything. Ideally as quiet and cool as possible, running on Vista x64 too. Should really upgrade to 7 but really can't be bothered to reinstall everything.

6950/6970 +1 + all 6900 series use vapor cooling.. but im also guessing sapphire will soon bring out their versions and the toxic ranges for these cards.

Just saw that theres only Vapors and Toxic's on the 5000 series cards, guess Sapphire are slacking!

At work so not entirely sure, but I think it is a Seasonic, SS-750HT. Crossfire/SLi ready jobby.

Eyeing up the 6950 on todays deal... How would it compare to my two 4970's in crossfire. Any issues running dual screen on them?

I have no interest in getting another Nvidia GPU unfortunately. Haven't had one for years, after I had three in a row die on me.

The 6950 is fine running two screens mate, I've been running 2x1080p with no problems. One 6950, especially if unlocked to a 6970 should outperform Xfire 4870's :)
