I was wondering if anyone could give me a little advice. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) with a GA-Z87-D3HP motherboard. My budget is about £300, any recommendations? I am aware that i can't use any CPU that requires DDR4.

What are you doing with the computer at moment?
What is the rest of your specification for the PC?
What are you hoping to achieve to upgrade?

Honestly at the moment and with the funds you have I would hold off doing anything right now tbh. The gains I believe you would get would be so minimal on the CPU upgrade that it wouldn't be worth it and you may well be better off upgrading a different part of your PC for a more notable improvement.

Radeon hd 7970
8gb ddr3 ram
Samsung evo ssd 250gig

Mostly looking to speed up video editing a little as i've noticed some lags in places. Was looking at a new GPU but prices seem crazy high now! Dam cryptominers!

Honestly I don't think you are going to notice the difference for video editing without entertaining the idea of a newer CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade overall.

16GB should be minimum RAM tbh and you want to be looking at a CPU that has 6-8 cores/12-16threads. This of course is beyond what £300 would bring new due to higher prices of RAM. I would look at second hand, there are plenty of Ryzen CPU's with RAM & Mobo floating that could be had for around your price range if you went 6 core and would give a boost.

You would then be able to support upgrading to M.2 drive at later date and add a further 16GB of RAM later or upgrade GPU (again looking second hand for something like 980ti or similar at £300) would overall give you a good boost in performance for a total of around £700 then in future upgrades.

If however you are looking new, you really need to up your budget a little to £400 ish tbh. That would allow you to purchase CPU 6 core/12 thread for £180, Mobo £50 and 3000Mhz 16GB DDR4 RAM for around £170.

Thanks for your reply's guys! Thinking i'll upgrade MOBO, RAM and CPU at a later date when I've got the funds :) Goping to upgrade my GPU instead. Currently have a HD7970 thinking of going for a GTX 1060
