I've been having a think at the possibility of getting a bit more power but looking at the cheapest option available to me. By far the most cost effective method is to PX/Sell my MK1.5 Focus for an older MK1 2.0 Ghia/Zetec.

Only issue is that a Zetec would cost me extra outlay a slightly older Ghia would not. Now regarding the wood :p:eek:. Is this really a big deal or would I soon forget it as I plant my foot?.

Insurance is 100 quid more so that is not an issue :D.

Found this car which is close to me which I think I may possibly have a butchers at;

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...&model=FOCUS&min_pr=&max_pr=4000&max_mileage=

Also wondering how big the difference will be between a 1.6 and 2.0 (Never drove anything over 2.0 really)

Hmmm, those with Ghia X's etc. Does the wood/old image bother you? :p.

If the wood really bothers you, you can probably swap it for some silver trim quite easily - I did this in my Mondeo :)

Yes this is a possibility that centre console around the Tape player is a bitch to remove though, believe me :D.

Will ring up about this tomorrow and see if I can go down for a test drive. Only thing I'm wondering is if I PX for my Focus I'd want at least 3k for it, What Car website put's down an evaluation of £3125 PX on my Focus so 3k I'd be aiming at minimum. Would they offer me cash as well as that car for mine?, or is there a chance they could be stubborn about it. Not really sure how these things work..

This car also has a Tape deck which is not an issue to me since I have a head unit that would be thrown in anyway.

MPG calculator is a plus and also comes with the Traction control which I can safely say will remain off :p

The car would obviously recieve immediate de tango.

Any reason why I shouldn't do this?, hopefully it's not sold and I can take a look tommorow.

Colour on that one is horrid. You seem to be rushing into this. Its a good idea in principle but I'd find a better 2.0.

I do rather like the Blue

What Car values the car @

Ford Focus Hatchback (98-04) 2.0i 16v Ghia 5dr 1999 (V )70,000 miles

Dealer £3,745
Private £2,945
Part exchange £2,595
Trade £2,445
Cost new £14,570

Either that's incredibly out of date or the car I posted is a bargain..

A quick search on Pistoneheads reveals this ESP 2.0

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/304628.htm

Now while this is very nice I don't think they would do a part ex for a slower Focus :p, and I don't happen to have 2k of petty cash lying around. So would prob have to give this one a miss. Would prefer to just do a PX with a garage as I feel I could get a decent PX price for my Focus and it just seems less hassle that way.

Out of date it seems. Im looking for a new car, was looking towards clio 172s etc, but am now thinking thats not a good idea financially, so am looking more towards a 2.0 Focus I think, and im not looking at paying too much more than 4k for an 02/03 with average miles :)

Would prefer to do it with little or no outlay. Don't mind the MK1 Focus's at all. Will miss the grill etc of the MK1.5 Foci though.

Don't think it looks that great tbh, don't like the colour either.

Not fancy something other than a focus?

You could always buy another panel and then spray it black or silver . I don't think the wood looks that bad though tbh.

the chrome metal thing on the boot lid always rusts around the corners its a common problem.

i wouldn't want a focus with a tow bar, i've had 2 with clutch problems.

try get a zetec esp 2.0 3dr they're great cars.

I have a 2001 2.0 Ghia. It is a superb car (apart from the waterpump needed replacing which got fixed under warranty).

You'll only really notice it's a 2 litre on the motorway when you want to get upto 80/90 quite quickly but other than that you wont notice more acceleration from a 1.6.

The walnut trim can be replaced. Just nip to a brokers and you can get a black walnut trim which I have in mine and it looks so much better!

Only thing is, I have a 2.0 ghia and my mate has a 1.8 zetec, his seems to handle a LOT better, mine seems to roll into corners more.

I think the ghia may have softened suspension for a better ride - which it is, especially on the motorway (or the zetec has stiffened suspension to make it sportier).
