To Ghia or not to Ghia

Only thing is, I have a 2.0 ghia and my mate has a 1.8 zetec, his seems to handle a LOT better, mine seems to roll into corners more.

I think the ghia may have softened suspension for a better ride - which it is, especially on the motorway (or the zetec has stiffened suspension to make it sportier).

Yeah thats why i went for a Zetec. My instructors car was an LX and i didn't like the feel of the handling compared to when his car broke down and he got a Zetec hire car.

The 2.0 special edition 3 door seems like a really nice car. Leather heated seats etc and is based on the Zetec platform iirc. Maybe thats worth looking into?. Although saying that imo the Focus is one of the few cars that actually look better with 5 doors.

i have a 2 litre zetec - it's by far the best visually resolved of the non ST/RS focii. it has AC, electric front windows, 6CD etc. i think the only things it lacks over a ghia are wood, electric rears and a trip computer

If im not going to see any sort of improvement in acceleration according to peter does it really make it worth my while, the Focus in my OP is still available and the guy did seem interested in mine but the wood and worse handling is putting me off.

the 2.0 goes considerably betterthan the 1.6. my mate had a 1.6, i've driven it, he's driven mine, and we both agree there's considerable extra shove with the 2.0

depends on model according to parkers :)

ghia

1.6 Ghia 5d (98) 10.1 s 115 mph 98 bhp
1.6 Ghia 5d (01) 10.8 s 115 mph 98 bhp
2.0 Ghia 5d (01) 9.0 s 125 mph 128 bhp

1.6 Zetec 3d (01) 10.6 s 115 mph 98 bhp
2.0 Zetec 3d 8.9 s 125 mph 128 bhp
2.0 Zetec 5d 8.9 s 125 mph 128 bhp

1.8 TDCi LX 5d 10.4 s 122 mph 113 bhp

Changing cars!?

Did the oil thread really worrying you that much? :p j/k .

The ghia will give you a few more toys to play with, but handling can be somewhat sloppy compared to the zetecs stiffer suspension.

:p , I think I would miss the looks of the facelift too much :( also other little things about my car.

I used to have a Focus 1.8 Ghia and really didn't like the ride - I found it nauseating and sold the car after a 9 months. The other Ghia issue is the seats are rubbish - there is almost no side bolsters to keep you in the seat. If I were you I would think very carefully before switching to a Ghia.

Depends how much you want to stay facelift then. I personally don't think they look so much better that I would turn my nose up at a decent pre-facelift Ghia. It might look a little older on the outside but you'll be getting more toys on the inside.

Reading this thread has made me go on an Ebay hunt for Ghia toys now....I'm thinking of getting hold of the intermittent wiper stalk for my LX. I did once consider buying the trip computer, but they were about 80 quid....id rather keep my coin tray for that price :D

Ghia toys? Thats another thing, the spec on prefacelift Ghia's is apalling. They even have windup rear windows. Ghia is supposed to be high end yet the spec is barely better than a base model. No cruise, no rear electric windows, etc.

I mean little things..intermittent stalk...better interior lights with map reading.....etc. Nothing major, but bits and bobs that cost a couple of quid on the 'bay.

You're right though, it's not much more high end than base. I didn't realise they still had manual rear windows. Poor shout :/

Oh. They used that spec list in the Mark 1 section.

That would explain why the LX is listed as having the Quickclear screen as standard then, yet my LX doesn't. Well, more accurately, it has the screen, but no button to activate it.
