I'm a university student currently on placement with an IT company. they want me to continue working for them and have offered me £25k salary. Now do i take this offer or go back and finish my degree?

I know in the long run, having my degree will be more beneficial to me, but with the credit crunch and everything that has been going on lately, would i be better off staying put and do my final year of my degree part time (if thats possible)?

How about enquiring into working for them say 4 days a week and doing 1 day a week study to finish your degree. It will take a few years instead of one but this happens all the time when working on placements and usually the company/uni are pretty good with it all. Especially if they really want to keep you!!

Ask around, you never know what you might be allowed to do.

If neither is an option...I'd finish the degree. Jobs will come and go but to throw away 2-3 years hard(? :D) work is a waste. (Think of the fees/time wasted).

The "credit crunch" has been, to put it in terms people would associate with "over hyped", there are plenty of jobs especialy in IT and having a degree with make that number even larger.

Get your degree, it will help you more in the long run.

thanks guys, think i was pretty much already decided what i wanted to do. Would seem crazy if i didnt finish my degree and would mean i wasted the last 2 years.

gotta enjoy my last year as a student :D

Couldnt you just ask them if you can work part time?
Your final year of uni is a lot more flexible because of your Project.
One of my friends swapped around classes so he could work during the day and go uni in the evening for 3-4 days a week

Get your degree mate you only have a year left dont waste the 2 years of your life you have already devoted to the study!

If you don't finish your degree now you almost certainly never will, I was in the same position and was even offered the part time study route to finish my degree over two years but decided the only way I would give it my full attention and achieve the best result was to go back full time. I don't regret it, I had a fantastic year as we all knew it would be our last and that the real world was nothing like as much fun and then walked away with a 1st.

Tell them you will finish your degree and take the job in a years time. As mentioned above, if they really want you they will hold the job.

Apple cart :)

I'd say got for the job, get some experience and training .. finish the degree later or in your part time.. Experience > qualifications..

CVs of graduates with no commercial experience tend to be binned.

Can you finish your final year part time? if so would the company be willing to let you have the time off needed for a part time course.

If you left would you get a HND and would it just require a top up year to get a degree.?

Difficult to say really, I know a number of people who are earning silly money despite not having a degree. Generally I've found that experience is much more important/valuable than qualifications.
On the flip side a degree is always handy to have as it's proof in black and white that you have a certain amount of ability.

Do what you think is best as there are pros and cons for both.
