This is my sole desktop hard disk. Samsung SP1614C. Has win7 on it.
My point was I haven't seen write speeds higher than read speeds before... I've never benched it before. I was benching some USB pen drives and for curiosity did my internal drive too.
You'll see this with many Samsung drives (and some others). The F3 for example has insane seq. write speeds in synthetic benchmarks. My VelociRaptor occasionally benches this way too. How well that translates to real world use is another question.

I'm planning on moving to SSD if the Patriot firmware is up to snuff. I'll keep the 7 year old still-working-fine Samsung for my small amount (<100gb) of music, films and other assorted junk
The whole reason for the thread was my confusion at seeing it write faster than it reads
