To speedstep or not to speedstep ?

haswell has onchip vrm's so should throttle with a fixed cpu voltage amount

I think you have to enable each powersaving option rather than leave them on auto

chips before haswell wont throttle with a fixed cpu v,only through offset or dvid on gigabyte
 
I use offset voltage on my system, it basically allows the CPU voltage to drop at idle like if you left if on auto but means you can offset it from the auto voltage by a certain amount. I used a negative offset because my motherboard wanted to use 1.38V at auto settings for 4.5GHz which is excessive as I only needed about 1.22V for stability.
 
Enable 6-7 C states and voltage will drop when idle with Asus mobos and probably others brands as well.

It doesn't work with fixed voltage. When i had my Z87-A it used to work on the original bios but when i flashed it the voltage would no longer drop with a fixed voltage. It never has worked on my Hero. Voltage needs to be set as a offset or as adaptive to get it to drop. I know people advise against adaptive but even using a offset the voltage will spike 0.1v higher than you have set it when using AVX coding. Just run Linx and see for yourselves.
 
Having speestep enabled can cause all sorts of problems with audio equipment due to DPC latency. If i have it switched on it causes my DAC to 'pop' and generally sound like gash

If it didn't do this I would have it enabled
